Is this the game thread?

I was afraid the game was going to be exactly like it was. We always struggle against the Grizzlies because:
On defense they basically foul every single second. They gladly take the fouls the refs call, for the advantages of the fouls the refs don't call. This makes our players miserable because they just can't even handle the ball since there is always an opponent pushing and shoving.

On offense, Marc Gasol gets Gobert away from the paint and plays him like a 7 footer Larry Bird every time.

Remember last season when the tanking Grizzlies couldn't contain themselves and were beating us like a drum? How Gasol scored 28 points in 23 minutes? How they sit him the rest of the way so they didn't beat us? Well, today they weren't tanking.

What I don't get? How they give up 130 points a few days ago. I guess the refs call every foul when the Grizzlies face other opponents. Our fans didn't boo enough.

From your post it sounds like crappy shooting from mitchell is a big problem. I would have to agree.
It also sounds like you think that our pg rotation shooting horribly isnt a problem.
Gonna have to disagree with you on that one.

Btw, rubio has scored 20 points on 24 shots. (Similar to mitchell in that they both scored 4 less points than shots taken. Rubio has had much easier and more makeable shots however)

The bright side is the Jazz usually start the season slow. I knew it was too good to be true when ESPN was raving about our offense.

Rubio looks god awful.
Mitchell looks like Tyreke Evans after his ROY campaign.
Favors not only looks like Droopy, but plays like Droopy the dog.

The Jazz looked like they went to the Eric Snow basketball camp of how to miss layups. Exum struggles making some easy ones. Mitchell's left hand layups didn't even draw rim at times.

I think this was just a terrible game and off night more than anything, but great teams, or teams that are supposed to be a top 5 team don't show up like this.

The Jazz should apologize to everyone who bought a ticket.
 
Nobody could hit a shot so Quin puts Allen in. To do what? Presumably take shots. It was then infuriating watching Exum be a ball hog bitch and not let get Allen a shot.

Also with under a minute to go and down by six and out of the time out, Quin should have drawn up a play for Allen. Instead Mitchell takes the shot. Clank.

Ballgame.
 
We ran a ton of offense for Gobert the first two games yet he only had 2 shot attempts with 6 minutes left to play. If Gobert is ineffective with Favors and Rubio playing so poorly, we have to try something else.

Quin waited too long to try something new. He played Rubio 7 more minutes last night than he did against Sacramento. In my opinion, those were unearned minutes because Conley, just like Fox, was winning that matchup.

There is no reason to panic, but it's also okay to call out coaches or players who struggled. Everybody save maybe Crowder and Grayson struggled.

Ricky Rubio is 6/24 on shooting for the year. Atrocious. That said, DMitch started the first five games of his career shooting something like 8/64 last year, so at least he's shooting better than that.

The Jazz have been consistently good at having players on the team shoot, on a regular basis something like 1/11 e.g. Rodney Hood, Burks, Rubio, Crowder, Exum. I'm sure it happens to other teams as well, but damn it seems like it's a Jazz thing.
 
I’m not ready to trade anyone yet but look at some of Donovan’s drives... drives the ball and there are 7 people waiting for him. Need space or to shoot great from the perimeter or it won’t work.

No one had any urgency last night. Not sure Jae should start but maybe Niang or Thabo and keep Jae in the bench role... if favs can’t figure it out.

Last night Quin should have got a tech... Memphis was grabbing and holding a ton and then DM gets called for pushing off... it was kinda rough.
 
This game could also be a testament to the Jazz practicing to be a more fast paced team that's better suited to play against upbeat and fast paced teams than what they've traditionally been in the past. They might want to work on their half court offense some, eh? That said, I think it was more due to the fact that they couldn't shoot collectively as a team last night.
 
We didn't play well at all. Actually it was pretty terrible. But we had it down to a two possession game near the end.
 
Our biggest worry is Donovan. We need him to play well to be a great team. Early last season in an interview he mentioned all of the praise he was getting and said that he needed to stay humble because at any point your shot could go away. I thought it was a weird comment at the time but I think that's his biggest worry-that he doesn't have the consistency in his shooting. Right now that thought is at the forefront of his thinking and it's affecting his whole game. Combine that with less explosiveness due to taking the whole summer off, and the hype all summer as he put himself out there as a star and you have a guy who is struggling. He'll get it back but hopefully it doesn't take long.
