“Hezbollah is dealing with disagreement among its ranks over how to respond to a series of devastating attacks on the Lebanese militant group, according to people familiar with the group’s deliberations. With no good options available, the group faces one of the most consequential decisions in its four-decade history.

Hezbollah, the world’s most heavily armed nonstate paramilitary group, fired its first missile at the commercial capital of Tel Aviv on Wednesday, its boldest response yet to a dramatic series of strikes by Israel. It must now choose whether to unleash more of its advanced weapons, striking deeper into Israel and potentially triggering a full-scale war, or hold back and risk diminishing its reputation as one of the fiercest fighting forces in the Middle East.

“This is the single most crucial moment for Hezbollah since it was created,” said Rym Momtaz, a security analyst at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace with expertise in Hezbollah. “Hezbollah has no good options.”

Is there realistically any outcome besides all-out war? It's nearly impossible for an outside observer to "pick a side". Innocents are being hurt, both intentionally and collaterally on both sides. All sides have a pride factor among their leadership that simply won't allow backing down in any way. No one has sufficient sway on both sides to help broker peace. This is nearly as untenable a situation as any war the world has seen in the past. What is the final outcome here? One side just obliterated?

Reports across Israeli media say that Nasrallah was one of many killed in a pinpoint strike on Hezbollah’s stronghold. The strike also reportedly took out the terror group's "number two" commander and is believed to have killed many other senior Hezbollah operatives.

"The assessment in Israel: Nasrallah is eliminated," stated a Hebrew-language headline on Israel’s Channel 12 news station. A second outlet said there is "cautious optimism in Israel: The strike on Nasrallah succeeded," according to the Times of Israel.

The reports are bolstered by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s abrupt decision to leave New York City early, just hours after he addressed the United Nations General Assembly. Nasrallah’s death would mark a sea change for Lebanon and the larger Middle East, which has been plagued by the Iran-backed terror group for decades.

It is also likely to infuriate Tehran’s hardline regime, which has long treated Hezbollah as its crowning terror proxy. In the wake of the strike, Iran's embassy in Beirut said it "represents a dangerous escalation that changes the rules of the game."

Uhhhh..wut? Hassan Nasrallah had killed Americans. He was such a nasty piece of work that Saudi Arabia, Jordan, a huge chunk of Syria, and nearly every other Sunni-majority nation in the region is cheering the idea of Hassan Nasrallah in hell.

...and your response is "it's not good". Why? Are you really upset that Iran lost one of their most deadly terrorists? Peace with Hassan Nasrallah was not possible, and now he has been removed from the board. Do you want forever war? Is that why you are sad?

I’m talking about the precariousness of the situation. The war itself on its northern front. Not the actual operation to eliminate the man. I’m certain the world is better off, it’s the war itself that concerns me, and the response to this killing. In other words, what’s next? But, you know that. You just like to find some angle you can use to troll people. You knew damn well what I was saying. You’re slipping, you’re a more accomplished troll than that! Do better!

“Iran’s leadership is divided and bewildered over Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, four Iranian officials told The New York Times, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei apparently undecided about what to do next.

While conservative Iranians want a strong response, including a direct attack on Israel, moderates are urging restraint, the Saturday report said.

All of the four officials, two of whom are members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, spoke on condition of anonymity.

They said news of Nasrallah’s death was received with shock and anxiety in Tehran, with some senior officials privately or in emergency meetings speculating that Israel may also strike Iran, with Khamenei as the target.

Amid heightened security, Khamenei was moved Saturday to a secure location from where he vowed revenge for Nasrallah’s death”.

I’m glad to hear you voice in this post for the first time anywhere the world is better off with Hassan Nasrallah dead. The world is better off. The war on Israel’s northern border is better off. The people of Israel and the people of Lebanon are better off.

What I do is point out the obvious. Hezbollah has been launching rockets into Israel for the past 11 months and you say nothing. Israelis have been killed by Hezbollah and you say nothing. The top third of Israel has been under evacuation orders for months and you say nothing. There were no condemnations coming from your keyboard until after Israel, over the course of a week, took out the leadership of the terrorist organization engaged in war for almost a year. Only after terrorists were dead and Hezbollah’s capability to attack Israel was severely degraded did you say “Oh noes!”

That said, I cheer your recent pivot.

Those such as terrorist Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, with her claims of Jews causing a precarious situation with their escalatory actions, have been exposed as nothing more than ill-informed Anti-Semites.

Seemingly when facing an enemy who has never been open to peaceful coexistence, the answer is to keep killing the leadership until a leader who might be open to peace rises to power. The new, new leader of Hezbollah has publically said he wants a ceasefire and negotiations for peace.

What I am is someone who lived in the Middle East and has been paying attention to issues there long enough to know who speaks with wisdom, and who does not.

  1. The United States will do what is in the best interests of the United States.
  2. It is NOT in the security interests of the United States for there to be a functional Hezbollah.
  3. It is NOT in the security interests of Sunni nations such as Saudi Arabia for there to be a functional Hezbollah.
  4. It IS in the best interests of the United States and of Democrats seeking reelection for inflation to be brought under control.
  5. High oil prices cause inflation and Hezbollah-hating Saudi Arabia has some say on the price of oil.
  6. It IS in the security interests and economic interests of the United States for Hezbollah to be taken off the board.
  7. The United States will do what is in the best interests of the United States.
Not everyone in the world bases their decisions on how to best hurt Jews.
 
Damn... Hamas leader killed. Great for the entire world but Democrats are angry. Sorry about your tremendous loss guys. He also loved to kill political opponents and joke about raping children like you model citizens.
