KOC made as many deals as most other GM's. Some minor, plus the big Deron trade. The Al Jefferson deal was also set up at the previous deadline; the one hangup being that Minnesota demanded an additional first, which KOC managed to obtain. I'd much rather have NO deal made than one which limits the team's ability to do other deals. Even minor stuff, like acquiring Novak. May not seem significant right now, but that extra year could hinder Utah's ability to spend max dollars this summer. And all we got out of tieing up cap space was a 2nd-round pick. Now I'll take back what I said if Novak can be dealt to a contender before Thursday.

I think the chance of trading Kanter is less than 50%. Based on what Ergul has said, teams know he's likely to just sign a QO - or they'd have to overpay by a TON to get him to sign a 4yr deal. I just don't see teams giving up a decent asset to acquire him.

Pretty much agree. Definitely excited about the possibility of trading Kanter but I don't buy any of these tweets. As long suffering trade deadline Jazz fans, I think we all know that The Jazz FO taking calls is one thing - actually making a move is something entirely different.

Not entirely true. The initial call was about AK. KOC then asked King if he was interested in any other player on the Jazz. It was a very skillful leading question designed to let King make the first offer. And you can bet NJ was not the only team KOC contacted. Because Utah wants absolute discretion, we rarely hear rumors. Remember the pre-season deal involving AK that fell apart? KOC went BALLISTIC when that leaked!

The Jazz also don't buy draft picks, but they've gotten themselves a potential defensive stud and franchise center by doing exactly that. I think DL likes to be a lot more aggressive than KOC.

KOC was pretty aggressive in trading up for Deron. KOC did most of his building via free agency and trades (Memo, Boozer, Jefferson, etc.). DL is going young via the draft. Completely different, but both valid approaches: DL's approach just takes longer and has more risk.

I don't disagree with this at all, and I think that the trade for Deron ended up pretty well for the Jazz (with the potential to get better or worse based on what they get for Kanter).

DL understands you need a rim protector to be an elite team in the league, KOC didn't. He made the gamble on Gobert, and it looks like its going to pay huge dividends. KOC didn't have the nads to make such a gamble until the window was closed for us. He got Favors, but it was too late...

Every team can say the same thing. It is part of the game. It's like saying "imagine if all our guards shot 60%". Both free agency and draft routes carry a risk. I don't think the Nets were thrilled about paying Deron an assload of money while being injured for most of that time. There are no guarantees than any deal would work out, and no point in dwelling on it.

DL got a little lucky. KOC traded to draft Fesenko and traded for Favors It just turned out that Gobert was more committed to getting better than Fesenko was. Your revisionist history on KOC is a joke at best.
