Jackpotting Around 52 - Uproar Theory, Tankxiety, Keyonte, and Trade Talk

You also get the maximum bad PR. We’ve only really tanked hard one season, which is much less than the majority of “homegrown” teams, but we receive the PR as if we had been tanking hard this whole time.

Then you add on the human element to this as well. Does it really feel any better that we half tanked 3 years ago instead of full tank? Patience is running out from fans and seemingly in the FO as well.

I often say building from the middle is not as bad as people make it out to be…but what the Jazz have done is actually horrible. The way they’ve minimized the rewards and maximized the downsides is almost artful.

I will say what grinds my gears a bit on the tanking is strategy is why no one just does minutes limits for their stars.

Playing Lauri 28 mpg. The first 7 of the odd quarters, and the last 7 of the even. Then rest him in the grimey season. That seems like a smart strategy and that wouldn't draw as much ire.
Don't even have to go that low. In wins Lauri plays 38 minutes. Drop that to 32-33 and how many of those games flip? At least a couple.

Yeah I can't see why Lauri should be on pace to play his most games ever and most MPG ever in this year of all years. Those 15+ minute stretches to end the game actually make me cringe from a tank and Lauri wellness perspective. I know Hardy coaches to win, but the FO has got to give him a rule that he cannot do that anymore. They should implement that rule even next year when we're not tanking.

But Hardy does not have mandate to try and lose. Its been pretty obvious. I think he has some mandate to play certain young guys bigger minutes than they deserve for "evaluation reasons", but its not like he has to put them in to close out games. He has pretty much closed games with the lineups that have worked the best in that specific game, including closing with Kyle Anderson against Dallas (zero justification to do that except doing your best to win).

He should have a mandate to not play guys that many minutes in games. If he wins games with all the constraints then so be it... but he needs more constraints.

And I realize its not super great for the coach or player... but it is what we need to do if we want to keep this group together for next year while managing the tank this year. If they had chosen no tank or tearing it down even further then we'd have a different set of choices.
