Jackpotting Around - The Great Walker Kessler Debate

I mean if he gets the Caruso whistle... might be AC+. I think they can go up to MLE or close to it for his extension but he will be unrestricted. He would be top of my list as he would fit just about any backcourt partner.

He might be....on paper he's a lot better than Braun. If we could unite the analytics gods (Eason and Ellis) we might be onto something. Reality is we're probably shooting for guys like Ivey and Mathurin.

I mean Ainge getting his guy Quentin Grimes has to be it right?

I can see Ellis getting like 10M a year and me losing my mind it wasn't us.

I think that there is a chance they just don't like his player type and don't want to commit to it... my issue is then they should absolutely trade him. He will improve but I doubt he's gonna go Brook Lopez. By waiting they will subject themselves to another team valuing his services above what they are offering now. Maybe he gets squeezed but I doubt it as long as he's healthy. I think every cap space team would have interest in him and depending on how extensions play out... he may be the top RFA that teams see as gettable.

Its hard to value a guy at 2 firsts plus Reaves in a trade.... and also break off contract negotiation talks because the guy isn't willing to take a deep discount.

Just for reference. My guess is the Jazz are willing to do it at 20M but Walker is asking 30M. But I think Walker is still willing to talk. Logically anywhere from 23-28M seems doable if parties kept talking. Maybe stack a couple million in incentives there for all-defense. If you don't value him at that number then you should have traded him. Kind of a **** or get off the pot ya know.
These negotiations often take time. Kessler’s agent is pushing the price up, as he should, to see how high he can go. Eventually, they’ll reach a deal. I say this because I'm pretty sure AA wants to sign him to a long-term contract.

Well the news said that we basically announced no extension and no more negotiations... so unless that's a hardball tactic, then its not getting done.

Man I won’t forgive HH for putting the idea of Keon Ellis in my head.
Well... every now and again I manifest stuff for the Jazz. So far its just been Shaq Harrison, Jared Butler, and kind of Tay Henny... maybe I can make this happen lol.

Jazz probably aren't interested in Kessler long-term because Hardy won't change his scheme and his scheme minimizes Kessler's player type by stopping players from getting to the rim in general.

But they're probably scared of trading him because they don't want to trade him and look stupid because he's successful elsewhere.

But like... You have to make a choice, you can't just choose to do nothing. Either trade Kessler or change the scheme.

That’s it. Once you turn down the Lakers offer you say to yourself “we are extending him”. Doing neither you will paint yourself into a corner.

Also, be decisive you cowards. Make calls. It’s okay.

Yeah, but I don't believe the negotiations are completely over. But if they are, and they had serious negotiations, they must’ve been far apart with no resolution in sight.

They could put him on waivers.

Kessler is the only quality young player the Jazz have following three years of rebuilding. Trading him for picks would be acknowledging that they simply wasted three years for nothing.
