As one of the few Cody believers left on here I feel very vindicated I know it’s just one game but this is why he was the 10th pick hopefully he can build on it

My hope is that the slow development for Cody and Taylor will result in us getting them for bargain second contracts and they can both become 3 and D rotation players to complement our offensive upside players

Hit the bullseye on this one. His offensive game is clearly as a slasher/scorer, and that’s who he was in college. That part of his game looks improved when he actually does it, but it’s just not a play style that fits in when you’re the worst guy on the court. He needs to be that connective, supportive player but that’s just not who he is or ever has been.

I would say Collier is similar. He can really only play well when he’s dominating the ball. He’s in a unique situation where he gets that opportunity every night, but I don’t think there’s really a place for him on a good team. Think Collier is closer to being a worthy ball dominant player than Cody is being a leading scorer, however.

You could also argue Exum was this way. He was never an off ball player coming into the league, but he also wasn't close to be good enough to put the ball in his hands. If he never got injured, maybe he would have gotten there....but he was actually able to develop some complimentary skills. Took many years and going to Europe, but eventually Exum came to be useful player who can defend and play a little bit with and without the ball.

I have mentioned Exum as a pathway for Cody and I think that still holds true. Players can reinvent themselves....but my worry with Cody and all these comparisons is his lack of motor.
