Jaren Jackson Jr. traded to the Jazz

Fact is #1 team has 50% chance of 4 teams passing them. Its just about them not winning in lottery. But when you go to #5 team the chance of that happening already drops down to 0.6%, because you need every lottery winner to come from the group who has 6th (9.0%) best odds or worse.
In my mind, that was what I was poorly trying to convey, but my follow up post was more of self-deprecating shot at myself. Very well put though.

Well Collier did have 18pts and 22ast.
Collier is the type of player to feast on scrubs- he's physical and fast and gets downhill on the break easily. My only concern w/him is him and Keyonte haven't quite figured out how to play together in a way that maximizes both their strengths. We'll be scary good next season if they do figure it out.

At this point, Collier is useless off ball. That's just not great in the modern NBA game, even for a "pure" PG. He needs to dominate the ball when he's on the court – not because he's so good with it, but because he's absolutely horrible without it and hurts the whole lineup. Not an ideal starting point for a game plan.

For a tanking team, that's fine. But when you're really trying to win, you won't build your offense around the flaws of a guy like Collier. He's obviously a downhill cannonball and a good passer, but so far we've kept putting him smack in the middle of his comfort zone, and other guys have paid for it.

He's fun to watch, but I can't see a serious role for him if we're really going for it next year and he still can't shoot.

In this case, the quality of the picks is actually higher than normal. Unprotected 27 and unprotected 31 from PHX are not too bad imo. Ironically, we traded high volume (3 picks for one) for a highly quality which is the opposite of what you’re implying here. The cost is high, but not because of the quantity.

Generally, picks are highly overvalued when you draft with them. But you also have to think about what you could trade them for. I question the trade more from the perspective of, “was this the best we could have done with that draft capital?”.

We’re still finding out how star contracts are going to be treated in the apron era. I wouldn’t say JJJ is a home run contract at all given his inconsistency. If he plays like he did last season, sure.
The bolded is the thing I’m hung up on. This cap environment is unforgiving on underwater contracts, even if in other eras such a player would go for a haul.

This better be ****ing good.

If you’re being generous, you could try to chalk up some of his inconsistency to the turmoil with Ja etc…but it’s just a really high standard to live up to that $50M number. And it’s not like we have a ton of discount deals. I think I would like this fine for a team who was in a better money situation. But the Jazz are paying Lauri a premium. We’re going to have to Key and Kessler a ton. As long as we can still trade everyone it’s fine, but we’re going to be in a money crunch from here on out.

This is where all these 2nd round picks come in handy. Keep on taking (cheap) swings while the main roster is set in stone. Just need an occasional hit while the core slowly ages and the 2nd apron starts biting.

Thanks for the article Peter Effin Parker...
Has / Is Jaren coming to SLC before joining the team on the road? Have the Jazz posted any pics of him with the team or management?
