Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Denzel Valentine, Juancho, Wade Baldwin IV, Henry Ellenson, Omari Spellman, Kris Dunn, and Chandler Hutchison were first round picks not that long ago. Juancho is the only one still in the league.

I’d hold on to those suckers like gold. If Edwards bolts for a bigger market and the KAT/Rudy pairing doesn’t work, those picks are game changers.

They are all-in for this moment and as history shows, plans can go awry quickly in this league.
We also don’t know how much of the obvious culture shift comes from Bev and Vando rather than Edwards and Towns. If Gobert doesn’t similarly impact their culture then it could immediately not be very good.

My belief is that they’re going to be a very good regular season team which in terms of valuing the picks owed the Jazz is all that matters. But I think that lasts to the end of Gobert’s contract. At best, I think.

Gobert going down would be a bummer for them, but people forget they have Naz Reid, a very promising young big man who can fill in if needed.

And Gobert/KAT arent going down for long. They have both been pretty durable players most of their careers.

They are one of the deepest teams in the NBA....
Yeah you probably right... still think a Rudy injury has them as a play in team. If Rudy plays 40+ games they likely avoid it. I like Nowell a lot... if they have a Russell or Edwards injury he likely can pick up some slack. Over the next year or two though they could bump into some budget cuts. Edwards, McDaniels, Nowell all get BIG raises or bounce. I think Russell is out. They better hope Moore is good (I like him).

I still wouldn't sell off the assets right now. Again... Lakers, Clips, just gave away lotto picks. Only very confident teams give away unprotected picks... they have reasons to be really confident but then life slaps em upside the head.

They are?
I'd say so. I couldnt tell you exactly where they rank, but I'd put them firmly in the top 10 of depth.

I'm not a Paschall fan at all, but him being your 16th man is pretty nice. AJ Lawson is also one of the better 2-way players when it comes to NBA upside.

Jaylen Nowell might win a 6th man of the year award in the next few seasons.

Kyle Anderson is going to be one of the most impactful non-scoring bench players in the NBA.

Jaden McDaniels as your 5th best starter is absolutely nutty (if they hype around him is real, a lot of his advanced numbers point to him being a very good defender who will only get better with Rudy)

Having experienced guards like Forbes and Rivers on the back end of your roster is a luxury.

Jordan McLaughlin was one of the better backup PG's in the NBA in the 2nd half of the season last year.

Tauren Prince is unspectacular, but he's a solid bench player w/ size and defensive ability.

I also like the 3 rookies they drafted in Minott/Moore/Spagnolo. Not sure any of them are contributors this year though.

That's true... but Rudy is getting to that age where things decline a bit. Likely is totally fine... but I don't expect him to go his whole career without at least one injury that costs him 40-50 games in a year.

I just think a lot can happen. They will basically have the whole cap committed to Rudy/KAT/Edwards/McDaniels so a lot of these pieces like Reid/Nowell/Russell won't be on the roster in a couple years. They will have limited means to replace them and if one of KAT/Rudy go down those contracts become a millstone. In 2024-25 they will have 94M committed to just Rudy/KAT. Life can come at you fast.

I would bet the average pick yielded by the Rudy trade is like #21 when all is said and done.

BTW Nowell is a guy I’d go after hard next year if/when we have cap space.

I found funny the injury things about Minny. As this can be apply to 90% of NBA team. Memphis without Ja and JJJ would be bad, Fakers were bad without Davis, Clippers were not really good without Kahwi.....this can happen to Minny or not. But if they stay healthy im pretty sure they will be a contender.
