Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

The market can be fickle sometimes. Teams were not throwing picks to get Bev. I think part of that is next year is historically good draft so normally Bev would solicit a pick but teams are holding the picks tightly. So it came down to a smaller pool of teams wanting Bev and this is was the best offer. Is that undervaluing him. Yes but we aren't waiting for the trade deadline to hold onto him - we have other goals and having him would have increased the win total.

They are the kind of deals that became death by a thousand cuts in the DL era.

We still don’t have like any second round picks… grab one here or there now… even though its not a huge deal.
I mean we have 3 first round picks next year, probably at least 5 if the New York deal goes down. Why the Hell do we need second rounders?

Will they have the nba in 2024, 2025, 2026 and beyond? We have 3 second round picks the next 7 years… nothing wrong with adding some now. Even if you don’t draft guys they are good filler assets in other deals… we like fill those coffers fast but no reason to ignore it now.

Mr. Banks is an idiot. He is throwing a big word around not knowing what it means.
Yeah. Ainge is team president of an NBA team - not CEO of some Fortune 500 publicly traded company.

The only person he represents is Ryan Smith and it sure looks like he gave DA carte blanche to do whatever it takes to build the team his way. Also - eff - the Knicks. I have zero problems with how Ainge has handled this summer. He got great deals for both O’Neale and Gobert. If he has to hold out to get the same from Mitchell - so be it.

To lube or dial in deals. If there’s some player out there that only requires a second to acquire, it’s better to send that than a first.

And just broadly speaking, if the last few years haven’t demonstrated that 2nd rounders do stuff then there is nothing I or anyone else can tell you.

You get or retain assets whenever you can. Period.

I’m confused… ya it’s shocking, but basically this dude is saying Ainge is going to take a lesser deal from another team because the Knicks refuse to pay a decent offer and some how it benefits Ainge?
I think maybe his idea is that instead of taking a very good offer from the Knicks, DA will hold out in order to look like the GOAT, and will end up having to take a lesser offer later when Knicks pull theirs. Or something. I don't think the tweet will age all that well.
