Jazz Coaching Staff set

As a fan, with no financial investment in this team at all, I would have paid whatever it took to get Chip Engelland on board. Associate head coach? Check. One of the highest paid assistants in the league? Check.

I'm all for a coaching staff that specializes in player development, but if that's the route we're going. . . why not invest in one of the top coaches who teaches one of the most needed skills at a very high level and in a system similar to what he's been running? On paper, it seems like a good fit for him and the Jazz. But you have to be willing to pay for that kind of talent.

If this team wants to eventually be the Spurs, then they need to be ruthless in gaining any edge that they can. I like all 5 of the guys that they have, but I'd have gone so hard for Messina and Engelland to round out my staff. What they're saving by not getting an elite staff vs. a good one is certainly far less than they threw away by having Andris Biedrins sit the bench last year.

It takes two to tango, as they say. GS was also very keen on prying Engelland away from SA and Engelland was Kerr's coach. If ANYONE could have pried him away from the Spurs, I think Kerr would have. As for Messina, I'm sure he was asked about his interest and declined. Rumors had him going to SA (probably to replace Pops eventually), but those have been squashed.

New York threw a TON of money at Kerr and he decided to go to GS. Who we want may be one thing, but those guys may not have the same desire to come to Utah, regardless of whether they get offered $6M to be head coach or $1M+ as an assistant.

Former Utah standout Alex Jensen has received a promotion to full-time assistant. Brad Jones, Jensen and Antonio Lang will be on the bench.

I like it. This staff is made up of 4 former head coaches and combined they have won 0 nba games.

Next fall could have a lot of really fun games.
 
Interesting. Figured with Wells' experience he was going to be lead. Player development has always been an entry-level position for the Jazz so it doesn't seem like much of a promotion to me over being a college assistant. Jensen, Jones and Bryant have been involved in player development for the last several years. I'd say their success has been underwhelming thus far. Maybe they're changing things around a bit and Wells can do better.

That's ok. Last year, how many NBA wins did Corbin and Lowe have between the two of them?
 
This is a cheap group of assistants No one with anything decent on the resumes. Typical Jazz move, a play at mediocrity.
