Bleacher report compared Butler to Malcolm Brogdon and based on the eye test that's an apt comparison in my mind. He's a big bodied combo guard with toughness and skills which with our smallish starting backcourt is exactly what this team needs IMO. This guy is a legitimate 6'3" and built solid. And skilled, and plays with intensity and composure, at #40 are you kidding me?

I mean I get it, some are disappointed that we didn't draft an athletic forward with size and strength but those guys were off the table at 40 and I think we can be fairly confident that we got the best player available. I do hope Snyder is willing to do some twin tower stuff with Doke in certain situations, because we look pretty puny against teams like the Lakers and the Bucks. Either way, Snyder needs to find an answer for Bully Ball and Small Ball.

Completely agree. He’ll probably be disappointed that he wasn’t drafted higher, but I think he comes into a very good situation here. A winning team with a clear system, where Conley’s games need to be managed throughout the season. He should get plenty of chances to show what he can do. And his skills fit in well too. He can play on ball or off, is a great catch & shoot scorer and can create for himself. Most impressive to me, like you said, he always seems in control. He’s also very good at creating space for his shot in P&R situations. Very excited about this pick and luckily we can see him in action soon in summer league.

Really interesting observation for somebody that hasn't spent much time down south. Been to Florida though it was years ago - seemed pretty cosmopolitan. Visited North Carolina for the first time back in March of this year (my son moved back there two years ago), and really fell in love with all the natural beauty. We stayed in Fayetteville and were impressed with the Southern Hospitality amid great diversity. Fort Bragg was named after a Confederate General and we visited a Civil War site which featured some Confederate perspectives but though not PC by some standards, revisionist history had not taken hold yet. Probably way ahead of places like Arkansas and Georgia (mayor overreacted in my mind). But as I say, NC was beautiful with friendly people and good race relations, I'd live there in a heartbeat, and if my wife has her way, I will yet.

That catch and shoot stat really stood out to me as well with our current long ball scheme! Good points, and I couldn't agree more about Summer League :cool: Can't wait!

I'm going to guess that that was rhetorical. All I can add is that GMs seem like a pretty conservative group, and above all else are afraid of making a mistake. That arrhythmia concern, real or not, was a red flag that prohibited Butler's selection much earlier.

I'm assuming they are letting Mike walk. Hopefully flipping favors and Niang (or whatever else) to address our actual needs. Maybe one day, after Mitchell leaves maybe, they will recognize we need a strong perimeter defender who can hang with the glut of big wings that now dominate the NBA. One of which, of course, we do not have.

Can you link me to the arrhythmia issue or specifically what the arrhythmia is?

Perhaps arrhythmia was not the right term, I don’t have any more information than anybody else.

Butler was reportedly diagnosed with aheart condition when he first committed to play at Alabama in 2018. He then transferred to Baylor and was later cleared to play as a full participant in each of the past three seasons with the Bears.

Love North Carolina, we've debated moving to Asheville recently. Really beautiful state.
