To be fair, he did preface it by noting teams not built to withstand injury to their key players. While that's pretty much true of most teams, Utah is especially vulnerable if Gobert goes down.

Last year the experts predicted that the JAzz would finish last in the Northwest too. Jazz are always underrated when it comes to preseason predictions.

That makes sense, although I`m not sure why anyone would think that Portland would be better than us if Lillard misses the same amount of games as Gobert, OKC with Westbrook or LA with LeBron.

Fair points and I agree. It's just Utah had demonstrable evidence of how bad Utah is when Gobert is hurt for a certain period of time.

This off season was never about getting the final piece. It was, and is, about using the scarcity of cap space to secure good contracts. Re-signing Favors and Exum to something like 3/33 and 3/25 would mean that we both would have space for a max deal next summer and have Favors, Exum and Crowder on very attractive deals that can be used in trades. This is obviously assuming they don`t get injured, but no strategy is risk free.

If DL can do this and also maybe secure another good role-player on a cheap contract, we will be in a great situation heading into the trade deadline and next summer. As a bonus we would also have a pretty damn good team and I am not sure what more we could realistically ask for.

Very good points that seemed to be completely lost on some folks.

@Jack Strop

I refuse to believe free agents won't come here. They could. Anything is possible.

But when you spend the first 24 hours going after an 8 year injury history pro who doesn't fit our starting lineup instead of maybe meeting with Aaron Gordon or Jabari Parker or Mario Hezonja or somebody else, you know we play it safe. No ambition.

You think the meeting with favors was 24 hours long?

Yup.

No, but getting those three there to make the pitch in Atlanta was time consuming. I think it's pretty ridiculous that the whole Favors' situation wasn't sorted out either middle of last season (when we decided not to trade him) or right after the playoffs. Why was it necessary to fly to his house on the first day of free agency when most of the valuable players were taken?

I think they went out there to beg him to come back. We will see...

After drafting Okobo, will the Suns still be interested in Dante ?

(I assume after Igor hiring there had been talk of this)

Not really sure Randle is a Jazz type player... I think we'll go more the Bertrand/Bjelica route.

Randle would be a good replacement for Favors and we could probably get him cheap considering the current climate. I would see him as a temporary fix but young enough to be a great trade chip especially if we got him at a bargain.

In addition we are vulnerable if Rickey goes down. I think there has been a lack of emphasis on back up point guard given when happened last season towards the end of the regular season and in the Houston series. Neto is nice, but inadequate for extended minutes. The rest of our wings can only plod along when asked to move into point responsibilities.
