Jazz get TPE for Boozer

Could the Jazz take on Bogut if the Bucks were willing? I am not suggesting they would be, but what are the rules on the TPE? Could they package up other players into the deal?

There seems to be a little confusion on the TPE that I didn't see answered correctly, so here goes.

* The Jazz pick up a $13M TPE because Boozer's first year salary with Chicago is $13M.
* There is no 125% rule on TPEs. The Jazz can accept 100% + $100K, so $13.1 million will be the max.
* The benefit, of course, is that you get a year to complete the trade.
* The Jazz will use at least part of this TPE.
* A TPE can be split up. The Jazz could accept 6 players making $2M each if they chose (they probably wouldn't).
* Unless they get a great offer, the Jazz will most likely use this TPE next offseason (at draft time or before July 8).
* Look for them to use the Harp, Brewer and/or Maynor TPEs this offseason (keep under LT and those TPEs expire first anyway).

I think that's everything I saw. Any questions?

reference?

Who is on the radar? What do you guys think about:

1.) Marc Gasol
2.) Brad Miller
3.) Tyson Chandler
4.) Marcin Gortat
5.) Danny Granger
6.) Al Harrington

I would take Gasol, Not so much on Miller. Chandler yes, Gortat, yes, but they could get him for the Harpring TPE. Granger, DUH but won't happen and harrington, eh...

Why would Chicago do this? does boozer get more as a result of this than he would with straight signing?

So this trade is Boozer+2nd for the right to trade later with anyone else? Again, what is Chicago offering in this?

It's almost guaranteed to have been a stipulation with Booze in the negotiations. Booze agrees to the basic parameters, while Chicago agrees to try and get Utah to agree to the S&T so they can give him the 10 percent raises and/or a 6th year.

Good question. The best I can say is that there seems to be a gentleman's agreement that when signing a top player from another team, at least give them a TPE and not devastate them. Boozer may or may not get the higher raise, and Chicago probably isn't getting much of an asset (conditional 2nd round pick?), but they are still willing to structure the deal to give the Jazz some options over the next year.

EDIT: Chicago COULD be getting one more thing. They could still pay Boozer the same total contract, but with a lower starting salary and higher raises. That helps them fit in more bang for their buck this year while they are under the cap.
