If GH can do all that I wouldn't mind (those stats with stellar defense = him containing the other team's star).

I'm sitting here trying to figure out why DL wants him so badly and the only thing I keep thinking is DL must think GH will flourish with the additions to the team/player improvements?

I am looking for the rational reason from DL. Hayward had better be working hard this off-season and not merely sitting on his brand new toilet made of gold.

Why look for the answer to the question to anything other than the easiest and most simple answer? The Jazz management, have analyzed the situation, and have come to the conclusion that in terms of achieving their long-term goals, that it simply does not matter what Gordon is paid.

The vast majority of this board is completely fixated on the notion that Gordon's achievements to date have to match up with whatever salary he is paid. Jazz management is unconcerned that this has to be the case. I suspect the collective here is seeing several boogeymen in the closet that either don't exist or that their existence is greatly exaggerated.

Really did you actually watch the Jazz especially at the end of the year when Kanter was playing like he did the previous year.

I don't really like to cherry pick. Kanter has shown flashes from even his rookie year but never put it all together. Still potential obviously, but I would have no problem as a GM saying Hayward is a priority over Kanter.

Not really, it would have been good if the Hornet's missed out on all the free agents they were interested in and sent a message to them. We will have plenty more RFA in the next few years and maybe that team would think twice next time before offering that type of money to a RSA tying their own hands behind their backs. Not only that but it sends a message to the rest of the league that if you offer one of our RFA money your tying your own hands behind your back on something we are going to match anyway.


Ohh and it was more than 13 hours, the Jazz had till 10.00 pm mst Sunday to match

Maybe DL has a tee time and family plans today....

I agree with this. I'm just not as sure about Kanter as I am about Hayward... And I'm not that sure about Hayward. God I hate the Corbin era so much.

I agree Pearl, it's easy to get caught up in the minute details and/or perceived ones and can't see the forest for the trees.

Speaking of one of those details, I was curious I thought the time started when the Jazz received the offer which would be early Thur morning and so the time would then end early Sun morning and not at the end of that day (Sun evening 10pm as someone stated). I know the opening period began 10pm MT (12am ET) so the earliest time they could've received the offer sheet was shortly after that time meaning on Sat shortly after 10pm they would've been the 3 days later.

But anyway I'm not lost on that detail was just curious.

Moving on, I agree with UGLI (can't decide if that is more shocking or that he actually made a really good point) you make decisions on what is best for your team and you do not make decisions focusing on other teams (even if it would feel nice to make them squirm that much longer). Making decisions that way is never a good idea as they are often based on emotional and not logical reasoning and causes you to lose focus on your own goals and plans.

I don't pretend to know what those reasons may be but common sense would say he's in town and if they sign him he can start to move forward with his life with his new wife here in UT and he can start working out with D Fav, other teammates and the coaching staff again.

Well Kanter was one of the worst players in the NBA last year.....so there's that angle.

Well that just qualifies him for a max contract then.

As long as I've been watching the Jazz (early 90's) we've only had (3) worthy max players: Karl, John, and Deron. I just see nothing from GH that tells me he will be part of this group. He'll be under constant scrutiny from Jazz fans for the next 4 years and I fear we'll be quite resentful these next years towards him. He'll have a bad game and we'll say "WTF max player?!?!", he'll have a great game and we'll say "why don't you do that more often max player?". Unless he averages around 19PPG, 6 RPG, and 5 AST with nice efficiency I think it's going to get ugly for him.

Those rankings aren't terrible, but the gap between 10th and 5th is vast and that's usually about where a team needs to get, especially if their offense may be taxed (or may not depending on where else they get shooting and just how qualitative those options are [again, Korver and Matthews could've been real pieces and were already on the team])

Gap is 3 points per possession. If Jazz faltered three points per possession in offense that year, they would have gone from 9th to 24th.

I'm using ESPN for PPP, not sure what GVC is using. Shows Jazz as 12th in 08-09 and 6th in 07-08 in points per possession defensively.
