Jazz Offseason Plan

Lonzo

And for the record, this is why I was so big on giving up the assets for Jrue Holiday. Jrue can play PG, but he doesn't have to. We should have gotten Jrue instead of Conley. But Lonzo would be a great fit too.

I say this every year, but..... the NBA as a league is dominated by the 6'8" / 220-lb. triple-threat wing. The reason is because they can do everything. They can defend multiple positions, grab a rebound, drive the ball, get to the rim, get an open look from 3pt, get a look from mid-range, and get in the key and make almost any pass on the floor. The game is just made for this type of player.

Look at Gordon Hayward. His dribble was pretty basic. His first step was pretty average. He was a good shooter, not a great shooter. He was a good passer, not a great passer. He could get to the rim, but he wasn't a skywalker. But Hayward impacted every play because he was that prototypical 6'8" / 220-lb wing with ball skills.

The Jazz haven't had that since Hayward left, and that's the guy I'd want to put on the floor between Mitchell and Gobert. Right now, Ingles is kind of a middling imitation of that player. The Jazz need a real one if they want to make the Finals.

In the event Conley leaves

Utah Out: Bojan/#30
Utah In: Murray/#41

LAL Out: Kuzma/#22
LAL In: Bojan

SAS Out: Murray/#41
SAS In: Kuzma/#22/#30

I could see LA kicking in a couple seconds as well. Gets us a PG signed for awhile, seems to fit alright (needs to keep working on his shot) and saves us a bit of money to duck the tax with Conley gone (which I think should be a pretty high priority). Helps with the perimeter defense (I'd still look for a guy who can really play the 4 - Boucher and Anderson are the names I like at a reasonable price point).

I agree completely. We need more wing talent. We needed it in the days of Stock and Malone. We needed it in the days of Deron and Booz. We need it in the day of Don and Rudy. We never prioritize it, but we need to find two way guys who fit the mold.

As for Lonzo, he is a great combination guy for Don. Excellent fit. Add him and a couple guys like you're talking, and we could have something real.

Lonzo would also be great, but he seems trickier to get here. Feels like somebody is going to sign him to more than I'd really like (I'm happy engough in the ~15M range).

If I'm trading Bojan, that's not the deal I'd want. Jazz would be better passing on that. Murray isn't a solution.

If Conley leaves, put the ball in Mitchell's hands, move Royce to the 2-guard, keep Bojan at the 3, bring in a long wing at the 4, and play Rudy at the 5. Then sub in Jordan Clarkson relatively early. It's fine to play Ingles as a backup PG, but have another legit backup PG for insurance.

Also, if Conley wants to leave, Jazz might be able to do a sign-and-trade with Dennis Schroeder. Quin has a good relationship from Atlanta.

That's fine-ish, but who's this long wing who can play the 4 that's signing for the tax-payer MLE?

I'm not sure that player exists.

In any case, if they can trade Favors for less (or no) returning salary without sending a 1st, that should be priority #1. Either that saves the team dozens of millions of dollars in LT payments, or it allows the Jazz to use the full MLE this offseason.
And it releases The Dok!

Have the Jazz ever fielded two summer league teams? Does this foreshadow a “hunger games” and potential purge on the back half of the roster?

To me, suggests the Jazz want to try a bunch of guys out to see if we can find the next Royce.
Pretty sure they never fielded 2 teams
I almost always attend or at least watch on tv and I never seen it before

I've seen a few Toronto fans say they'd take him into cap.

Couldn't convince them to give us Boucher back in the deal though :(

And now we know what DL was up to all season... he didn't get us a current player to help but he put together two summer league teams... what a sly devil.
