Significant weight loss has to happen in the off-season. Possibly in-season if you are just stuck to the bench and not playing games. It would be really hard to lose a lot of weight in a positive way while having the physical recovery demands of playing in G-League games. If Lofton was going to lose weight in the nba it would have happened by now
Say he loses 15-20 lbs of mostly fat in the offseason… the strength loss is going to be negligible for this sport. This is not an offensive lineman or sumo wrestling situation. Will him moving better make a big difference? No idea. Not saying he needs to or can be Wemby. It might improve what he is good at… Randle, Zion, etc are all guys that perform better when they get lighter and are still able to bully dudes. Not sure if Kevin Love helped his career or helped it but he’s about as close as you could get to a “maybe he got too skinny”. We even saw what having a few extra pounds did to favs… who wasn’t fat.If he loses weight, he will almost certainly lose strength in a sporting context. There's a reason why NFL offensive linemen are as big as they are. Personal weight loss is a different situation (congrats on the hard work btw). People inflate body fat% with athletic performance way too much. His weight does help him in certain situations, and his game really caters towards that. Having said that, at a smaller size he would also certainly be quicker/lighter on his feet and have better endurance. I think it would probably be a worthwhile tradeoff for him to lose some weight. Having said that, you don't want to take away what he's good at. If you go the extreme other direction and imagine Lofton shredded...he's not a pro player.

I doubt there is one team or staff in the league that doesn’t have dropping a few pounds on the top of his to do list if he came in and was part of their program.
His game is entirely predicated on being fat, so it might not be.
You are saying he shouldn’t try… since his game is predicated on being fat. Don’t make dumbass arguments if you don’t want obvious responses lol.Well no **** sherlock.
No one is saying he shouldnt try. He isnt a NBA player at this baseline playing weight (which seems to be in the 270 range) so he has to try. We are just saying him doing so might have zero benefit.
And yes, this is kind of a lineman situation. Lofton just plays a position/archetype that doesnt exist anymore. It's like if the NFL transitioned to 7 on 7 and linemen no longer existed, but you got this really talented football player who happens to be built like a lineman. Maybe he can drop 50 lbs and become a linebacker or maybe he drops that weight and you find out his special ability was to be able to be athletic at that certain size.
