Jazz Suns trade

One underrated benefit to this trade is people can now cheer for the Cavs in this year's playoffs without anybody here throwing a hissy fit and calling them traitors.
Playoffs have nothing to do with draft picks. Anybody could have cheered for the Cavs since their playoff fate has nothing to do with draft order.

The only bummer about this is that we now know for a fact that we won't be the accommodating team in any Butler, Beal, Middleton swaps. We probably aren't taking the picks we just traded back in compensation. . .Takes a little of the drama away.
Maybe we are still looking for a 1st in 26 as an insurance, and then picks/swaps farther out in the future when we are decent. We still have several vets to trade.

I tried to explain that to people who were angry about people here cheering for the Wolves during last year's playoffs.

Didn't go very well, but I tried.

#1 - I like that this trade gives me another team to root against. . . I love owning the picks of other teams. Once they stop tanking and actually start competing, they’ll still have years and years worth of other teams picks.

#2 - assuming the Cavs keep Mitchell and are solid for the next 3 years, two of those picks are basically worthless. Hopefully the Suns are garbage in 2030, but I’m fine with them taking a shot like this.

#3 - now that a swap with the Cleveland pick is basically off the table, I think the Jazz should try to get the rest of the Lakers ‘27 protections gone if they can. Lakers don’t have a ton of assets to upgrade their roster, but that would be a big one for Utah to acquire.

Sounds like the Suns are desperate to get off of Nurkic' salary.

Now that they have some first round picks to offer...

Clarkson and Eubanks for Nurkic plus the 2028 Suns first or the 2029 pick we just sent saves buckets of money. That pick is the best one of the 3 they just got.

It likely helps the Suns compete against the wolves as well. Wouldn't that be silly...

Also, assuming the Jazz bring over Prodica next year (which I think is likely) there’s NO way they would want to roster 4 more rookies next season.
