What's new

Jazz trade Devin Harris to Atlanta for Marvin Williams (merged)

He was exactly ten and five, so he is obviously not out of his mind. Now that he'll get the ball passed to him, I think that the points will go up.

But what did he replace? Devin Harris relied almost entirely on his quickness on the dribble to get his points. He didn't have crafty moves, he relied on speed, and his speed is going down as he ages. Oh by the way, he couldn't do a consistent pick and roll to save his life, and the Jazz system relies heavily on the pick and roll. Now I'm not sure if Mo can do the pick and roll, but he has to be better than Devin was, and he can shoot. and he's tougher physically and mentally. All he lacks that Devin has is maybe the speed, but guess what, we have wing players with speed now, so no big deal.

Thats what I'm implying. He had zero ops last year. He wil be a key player for us this year.

Devin Harris was making 0 next year. I already said I'd love the deal if it was a one year swap. It's the 7.5 in year 2 that makes me cringe. I'm ok with the deal, but if it was my choice I would have stayed "weaker" and kept the cap savings.
And then we'd all complain about how "Impotent" O'Connor and "Miser" Miller had both sat by and just let an asset go without getting ANYTHING in return, not even a 2nd-round pick.

AS difficult as it is to get FA's to come to Utah without significantly overpaying, I like the fact Marvin potentially has a 2nd year. Boozer was pretty motivated his last 2 seasons; first because he thought there would be a market for him when he had the chance to opt out, then when no one was going to pay him more. he had another "contract year" and posted good numbers.

Marvin is in a similar situation. If he plays great, he'll likely get a decent offer and will opt out. If he puts up similar numbers to what he did this past season, then we'll have him as an expiring contract asset.

We're in the bottom 5 of teams that use the PnR in the entire league.

It's not remotely hard to get an FA top come to Utah if you can pay more than the MLE and that's all other teams can afford to offer. If Williams is worth more than 7.5, then we will have made a great deal.

Wow.. solid logic there. Didn't see that comin' - rep'd.

Marvin is good for the organization and everyone was sure Harris was gonna go after Mo. The point on Marvin is his 3 point shooting percentage. Yeah he has all tools to defend, rebounding and hustling but he can not either create his points off the dribble or shoot consistently behind the arc. The last season for him was good and the only thing you can do as a fan is hoping it continues. Spacing and outside shooting is priority for the team and still i can not find a name except MO who shots well and consistently.

Also, when Utah traded for Al, I believe it was only Kenwood and myself who were about the only Jazz fans that were skeptical that it might not be all it was cracked up to be. Kenwood started a thread on it, and got absolutely hammered.
I am the godfather of unbridled Big Al hate. And I got hammered for it.

Love the trade. Harris was never a good fit here with his lack of three point shooting and with Jefferson clogging the lane. The Jazz should now have three 3-point threats in the starting lineup compared to one last year.

You being an nba nerd and all should know that his situation was not ideal, pal.

so you were saying i was out of my mind because marvin is going to be way better than 10 and 5? cool. we'll see.

it's not like he's going to be the #1 offensive option here, either. he will probably be the 5th option among starters, whether or not al starts for the jazz.
