It's effective in the regular season and sometimes the playoffs, but I think it stretches him too thin. The best, and most talented offenses will force everyone to play defense.

We're sorely lacking defensive players who can cover ground, create turnovers, and play team defense. We have a bunch of guys who are good at staying home at shooters, but that doesn't help Rudy.

I don’t think they’re particularly good at closing out on shooters, either.

Well, there’s a reason why the Jazz allow so many few 3’s. They don’t have to close it well because they’re not helping in the paint. The Bucks have a far superior defensive strategy that I wish the Jazz would employ, but we probably don’t have enough athletes or willing defenders to execute.

Also Quin will never change his strategy or add new wrinkles.

It's weird but the Stars were pretty good on the defensive side of the balls last year and were running the same system. It's like some of the Jazz players didn't care. I know the skill levels differ but it appeared to me the Stars were giving effort and Jazz only so often.

The Jazz have been really good running this system too. Quin isn’t crazy for sticking too it. One difference between the stars and the Jazz is the the Stars had players who created turnovers. The Jazz were 28th in creating turnovers last season.

The nature of the scheme is conservative, so I don’t expect a ton of turnovers created...but there’s a severe lack of defensive playmaking. Everyone is content to stay home and do the bare minimum. This is where Rubio is missed.

I really wish Donovan would put more focus on defense. He was defensive prospect first, but that’s been lost in the NBA. I understand he has a heavy offensive load, but he also takes on too much creation himself when there’s several other players frustrated with the amount touches and shots they’re getting.

Maybe the 2nd round pick and having JC all year can take some of the load off Spida and let him do other things.

He needs to learn how play off the ball. Almost all of his offense is off the dribble...he's working too hard for his offense. Quin needs to use him like Hayward and get him some easy ones on cuts and off screen actions. We already have more than enough talent to make this shift, as a team they have to decide to be more unselfish.
 
Three months ago...

Jazz fans: "We need some size, length, athleticism off the bench. Play Oni!!!"

Jazz: "No. Absolutely not. No way."

Now...

Smart Jazz fans: "Sign an athletic defensive wing! We need help."

Jazz: "No. Oni is awesome and we want to give him minutes."
