Jazz vs Pacers Summer League 7-7-10 @ 5pm

Gaines' practice for a last-minute shot is to shoot the ball himself, resulting in a clanker that went over the backboard. Not too impressive.

Hayward was underwhelming today. Meanwhile, back at the drafting ranch, Paul George nearly achieved a double-double, 15/9.

Koufos had a very good game offensively. He was matched up with a skinny quick shotblocker Rolle. Koufos scored on a couple of jumpers and a couple of running hooks. He also finished more plays inside. He played okay D.

Hayward was overwhelmed by the length and athletic ability of Paul George and Marcus Williams. He had trouble getting into the paint cleanly. He had trouble defending. His jumper wasn't going. So this was his worst game.

Evans have a very long ways to go. But he has some explosive finishing ability and shot blocking ability. He hustles and is a better passer than I thought. If he can gain some more weight and improve his skills he has NBA athletic ability.

Jeffers came off the bench and had his best game. He was very aggressive on driving the ball. He played much better defensively and tracked down loose balls. He attempted a couple of 15 jumpers that did not look good. No one else really distinguished themselves.

Okay Hayward, you suck - fine. It happens.

But one more rebound than a dead man? Give me a damn break.

As bad as Hayward was, Gaines sucked even worse. Sorry you can not tell me there are not better PG around than Price and Gaines. Neither know how to run an offense. Gaines had ZERO assists.

I know it is one game but George looked pretty good. I can tell you that Hayward will get better once he gets time playing with DW. I think a lot of teams missed on Stephenson.

Seriously, Gaines and Jeffers are ok but I hope the Jazz can do better. I thought Evans looked better this game. Had a nice dunk and block. For being skinny he was fighting for position on defense.

The only guys I would bring to camp who are not drafted is Augustine. Maybe Davidson. The Jazz need to upgrade their backup PG. I have been very unimpressed with Gaines. He is too selfish and can't really shoot that well.

George had his best game, Hayward had his worst. Before tonight both were averaging 11 PPG with George getting 6 more minutes per game and putting up 8 more shots per game than Hayward. Plus, it's summer league.

How many minutes did Hayward even play? He didn't have a terrible game, but didn't shine imo. He had two really nice moves in the game.

Aside from the steal and dunk, Hayward had a pretty bad game. I don't care that much about total stats, but he passed up shots seemingly thinking "I'll be a team player." The Jazz' offensive philosophy is to get good shots. If you pass up a good shot, it better be to get a better one. Hayward had the one pass to Rice for a three that Hayward should have taken. He also had a dribble pull up 17 footer on the baseline running a pick with Augustine that he should have taken. Instead, he dribbles and passes it back to Augustine in back offensive position for that big man, so the Jazz are in a much weaker offensive position at that point. Hayward has to take that shot.

Agreed on all points, but I'd rather have a guy that you need to encourage to look to score for himself than a guy that doesn't even know what a good shot is. Hayward knows what it's like to be the go to guy and will learn when to get his shot off within the offense.
