I selected Monroe, but still like Aldrich. I guess at this point, since we have the #9 pick, we should take a risk and not just go for stability. The Jazz do that all the time. Monroe has more athleticism, etc, Upside.

I didn't like the fact that Monroe's Agent or Monroe decided not to show with other players either.
I'm just tired of the same old style game play. I know Jerry's coaching and drafting Aldrich will likely keep us on the path of a lot of wins, but likely not the playoff wins we want. Let's take a risk. A la one of my favorite sayings "Give me now and then a man and life will crown him king, who dares to face the consequence, just to risk the thing"

Monroe's pretty average athletically, so if that's you're looking for, you'd be better off with Aminu, Ed Davis, Whiteside, or Udoh. And how much better do you think Monroe can potentially be compared to Aldrich? I think he'll be starter in the league (just like Aldrich), but I don't him having all-star upside. I think there are several players with better upsides than Monroe if that's what your main criteria is.

It's not that I don't like Monroe or think he won't be a good player, it's just I don't think he really adds a whole lot to the team that the Jazz don't already have.

And what do you mean by playoff wins we want? Do you mean the Lakers? Aldrich has the best size and wingspan to combat the Lakers bigs in the whole draft.

Just because we're drafting #9 doesn't mean that the Jazz have to try to hit it out of the park...because there's an equal chance that they'll strike out (How do you like that for metaphors, folks)?

One other thing. I think KOC and the gang take a risk every year. Look at Curtis Borchard. Big Man, potential injury issues. They bet on the potential and got the injuries. It's a crap shoot. Back to the Stability thing though, Would you like your 10/10 guy for 10 years or risk on a "Potential" that might give you his rookie contract? It's a tough decision.

It definitely is a tough decision. It's why you or me aren't paid to make them. But hypothetically, the decision for me would really come down to one question: What player fits the team the best? There might be a player that's more talented, has more potential, or whatever. Just give me the player that fits what the team does the best and fills glaring needs. When picking at #9, you aren't going to have the luxury of choosing a franchise player more likely than not. So pick the player that fits your teams needs best and helps you win NOW, even if it means leaving a slightly more talented player on the board. Take as much risk out of it as possible. Drafting the right player is hard enough as it is. But that's just me...I'm not a wild risk taking type admittedly. I can respect those who are, but I'm just not.

Dude... did you watch any of the 20 minutes he played in this league??? It was like Dirk Nowitzky, Pau Gasol, and Manute Bol all wrapped into one goofy white guy who couldn't play basketball.

I just watched Whiteside in the Pacers workout and I'm not impressed at all. He avoided contact at all costs. He refused to put a body on anyone to either box out or deny them position...and physicality is something you either have or you don't for the most part.

In all seriousness it sounds like the interviews were huge red flags for Whiteside. Chad ford compared his attitude to Tyrus Thomas'. Others described him as being more than a little entitled. I feel like he's got most of the Demarcus Cousins problems without the same level of extreme upside.

While Cousins odds of success might be between 30-60% (depending on whose estimate you believe), I get the feeling Whiteside is in the 10-40% range.

I put Cousins odds of success at about 17%. I'd take him at #9 but I'd pass in the top four, no doubt. Whoever has that #5 pick is doomed.
