SALT LAKE CITY — Utah guard Josh "Jiggy" Watkins, who leads the Utes with 17.7 points and 4.8 assists per game, has been sidelined by head coach Larry Krystkowiak.

"I have suspended Josh Watkins indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. Josh will not be participating in any team activities until he has met certain obligations we have laid out for him," Krystkowiak said. "It's an unfortunate circumstance but we hope he can meet these obligations and become a part of our team once again. This is a team matter and I will not be discussing the details of his suspension any further."

Watkins, a 5-foot-11 senior from New York, did not practice with the team on Monday. He scored 11 points and had five assists in last Saturday's 82-52 loss at Fresno State.

As a junior, Watkins earned honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference recognition after averaging 14.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds for the Utes. He transferred to Utah after leading Howard College (Texas) to the NJCAA championship, earning tournament MVP honors along the way.

The Utes (1-6) are off to the worst start in program history. They've lost six straight entering Wednesday's home game against Cal State Fullerton.

Looks like Chris Hill screwed the pooch again with this hire...

Why doesn't he just hire Dave Rose?

Year 1 task seems just to be house cleaning and laying down a stricter basketball culture. Guy gets 3 years at least.

Agreed. You can't hand someone a toothbrush, the keys to ESA, and expect them to get the bathrooms clean in 15 minutes.

That's one ugly mess he has to clean up.

No way he gets fired. He probably started with the toughest job in all of college basketball. He got a crap program that left him with 4 at best average players. He did the absolute right thing by suspending the best player and sending a message. I kind of feel bad for the guy and the program and I really hope he can recruit and turn it around soon. It would be an awesome story if he did.
 
Krystko is old-school. That could be a great thing or a terrible thing. Recent history says it's more likely to be the latter than the former, but we'll see.

As a basketball mind, I think he should be a very good NCAA coach. But that's really only about half of the struggle.
 
Not much this year can be pinned on the Coach, last year the team was bad and they lost the best players off of a bad as they xfer'd schools and the few returning players likely wouldn't be starters for most any other D1 school.
Jiggy - was likely the best but c'mon how many other teams would he start for a hand full maybe?
Washburn - Wouldn't start and might not even be the first C off the bench on most D1 teams
Foster - Same as Washburn except taller and he's also out with a broken foot
Hines - He might be a spark plug shooter off the bench for some D1 teams

Well that's what returned everything else along with the coaching staff is new, after typing all that I'm still not happy even though I know the reasons and justification of it all, very very depressing.

As a Ute fan all I can hope for this season is just try hard, play hard and leave it all out on the court and they MIGHT get 1 or 2 more wins, yes I think they could easily go win less the rest of the way and only get one win and 3 wins is their ceiling and by ceiling I mean dreams of reaching up to the stars.
 
31 point home loss to Cal State Fullerton. Yes THE Cal State Fullerton..Good god this team is embarrassing
 
Oh my hell this team sucks....

Could they even beat many HS teams in this state? Seriously, could they beat Lone Peak?

I feel for this coach... I have no clue if he sucks or not... I understand that he was given a manure dump on fire, but what direction is this program going?

Has he signed anyone/any young players that might give hope that this team might be half decent in the next year or two?
