What's new

Jim Jordan is the choice for Speaker?

What would McCarthy do differently?
not shut down the government when trump and maga tell him to. Not be maga choice. Not be called MAGA kevin. Basically be less crappy than MAGA mike.

Komanduri said extremist Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) kickstarted the ousting of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the role three weeks ago at “the behest” of Donald Trump because McCarthy “did not shut down the government and create an atmosphere of chaos by which” the former president could win back the White House.
Wouldn't a prolonged shutdown be bad for Trump, as well as most Republicans in general?

Nope. Just blame it on who is the president. Simple. Most people are too stupid to know WHY the government is shut down they just know that it is shut down and the president is in charge of everything now.
Are/were high gas prices and inflation all bidens fault? Nope. How about the war in russia and gaza? Nope. But many think that trump has a magic fix all prices and end all wars button that biden either doesn't have or wont use. Same thoughts will dominate with a government shutdown.

I see it as the opposite. The government has essentially been shut down for the past three weeks because of McCarthy's inability to keep his own side in line. There is much to be seen with regards to how capable Mike Johnson is at fundraising, recruiting candidates, and back room negotiating but so far it looks like he's better positioned to get his caucus to toe the line.

Well if McCarthy would have got his caucus to toe the line then the government would have actually been shut down for the past three weeks rather than just essentially shut down. Trump wants biden to look bad to voters. Government being shutdown while biden is in charge looks bad to voters, regardless of why its shut down. trump gets what he wants when it comes to the gop. The gop has the majority in the house. therefore the government will get shut down.

Did Johnson vote against the continuing resolution before? For the most part, he supported it.

He doesn't plan to let the government shut down.

I think they're equally crappy.

Keeping your caucus in line doesn't mean caving in to the crazies. For her faults, Pelosi is great at it. There are multiple instances of Pelosi getting the squad to back off whatever crazy line they demanded the left pursue. McCarthy could not do with his crazies what Pelosi did with hers. McCarthy was not as good a leader as Pelosi. As embarrassing as this whole process has been, McCarthy did have to go.

I hope you are right. We will see. One thing is certain. MAGA wanted mccarthy gone and wanted johnson in his place. I dont typically trust what maga wants to also be what is good for the country. maybe this time will be different.

Yes this discussion is weird. It is like, would you rather have the **** of one big dog in a burning paper bag on your porch, or would you prefer the **** of 5 small dogs in the same bag. **** is **** in the end.

I have been clear all along that for me if maga wants something then democrats should not want that thing. That has been my issue.
McCarthy worked with Democrats. That pissed off trump and maga. Trump and maga want McCarthy gone. They need democrats help.

Right there I think the Democrats should have been like, "no thanks matt gaetz mtg boebert trump etc. We aren't going to help you achieve what you want"

I think that was a mistake. I know gaetz is super happy and touting the power of maga and how maga is ascending now or whatever. I hate to see it. But that's just me I guess

McCarthy didn't cave in to his crazies and that's why he is gone.
Johnson better cave in to his crazies or he gone too. Thing is, he is one of the crazies. I don't see how that's a good thing.
