What's new

Joel Bolomboy

Everyone laughed at me when I said I saw a lot of potential in him during summer league ... guess I'm getting the last laughs.

Reviewed that thread. No one laughed at you. One person said you may be getting ahead of yourself when you called him Mailman light.

wtf are you talking about? I'm one of many posters who have been repping him since draft day.

get down, son.

its a valid thought.

he did shoot 37% and 34% from (college) 3pt his junior and senior years.

To my very superficial understanding of his game, I could see this working a bit. We're actually quite thin at the 5 if we're considering that Withey doesn't get much burn. Assuming Gobert and Favors are healthy, more lineups can obviously have Favors as the default 5 when Gobert is not on the floor. I think we could likely see Bolomboy as a five in certain lineups if there's any injury to Gobert or Favors. On offense, based on the structure of our team having a lot of passing and now improved perimeter shooting, his athleticism may bring him some easy buckets within the offense and wouldn't be much of a liability while at the same time not having to be relied on for any production. There really aren't many big 5s that a lot of teams will run with and I think the biggest thing he brings is being able to be athletic enough to run with the team (and against other smaller big men) but also being a legitimate rebounder (which I think would be his largest value as he will bring that to the table without sacrificing speed or athleticism [simething more typical of someone who may be a good rebounder]). This can exploit other teams who try to put out quicker bigs who are weaker rebounders.

In other words he goes out there and wreaks havoc. The Jazz need some of that. Now that Booker is gone we could probably use a havoc wreaker.

I am hoping he becomes a Draymond Green type of player
With his size, strength, and quickness possibly a guy who can guard anyone on the court
Somone who could handle a defensive rotation and stop anyone
Might not have the offensive skills of Green but if he can guard every position that would be terrific
That seems like what teams are looking for and where the game is going

I took a lot of heat after that first game when he was pretty abysmal and I said I thought he reminded me, physically, of the Mailman and that I thought he had potential. Is he Mailman lite? That is quite a stretch, I admit. But you never know about players, what they could become.
