What's new

Joel Bolomboy

To my very superficial understanding of his game, I could see this working a bit. We're actually quite thin at the 5 if we're considering that Withey doesn't get much burn. Assuming Gobert and Favors are healthy, more lineups can obviously have Favors as the default 5 when Gobert is not on the floor. I think we could likely see Bolomboy as a five in certain lineups if there's any injury to Gobert or Favors. On offense, based on the structure of our team having a lot of passing and now improved perimeter shooting, his athleticism may bring him some easy buckets within the offense and wouldn't be much of a liability while at the same time not having to be relied on for any production. There really aren't many big 5s that a lot of teams will run with and I think the biggest thing he brings is being able to be athletic enough to run with the team (and against other smaller big men) but also being a legitimate rebounder (which I think would be his largest value as he will bring that to the table without sacrificing speed or athleticism [simething more typical of someone who may be a good rebounder]). This can exploit other teams who try to put out quicker bigs who are weaker rebounders.

In other words he goes out there and wreaks havoc. The Jazz need some of that. Now that Booker is gone we could probably use a havoc wreaker.

I am hoping he becomes a Draymond Green type of player
With his size, strength, and quickness possibly a guy who can guard anyone on the court
Somone who could handle a defensive rotation and stop anyone
Might not have the offensive skills of Green but if he can guard every position that would be terrific
That seems like what teams are looking for and where the game is going

wtf are you talking about? I'm one of many posters who have been repping him since draft day.

get down, son.

I took a lot of heat after that first game when he was pretty abysmal and I said I thought he reminded me, physically, of the Mailman and that I thought he had potential. Is he Mailman lite? That is quite a stretch, I admit. But you never know about players, what they could become.

the LoGrade and Eenie4u dogpiling in the am has resulted in a good start to the day for me

Reviewed that thread. No one laughed at you. One person said you may be getting ahead of yourself when you called him Mailman light.

That was me. And all I intended was for him to slow down the hype train.

If they don't play "Ballin Boy" every time he does something good, then our media team has failed. I'd link the video, but that wouldn't go over well.

Well, I will go out on a limb now and say Ballin Boy will at least be a regular rotation player by his third season. I have a "feeling," though, call it intuition that he's going to be a lot better than that. He's very raw and based on the interview with Locke (Locke sure did a terrible interview) sounds like a kid. Be good if the Mailman took him in tow. Looked up the Mailman's stats his rookie season: 15-9 and .481 FT percentage. No, he's not going to make those numbers this year - lol. Who knows how much he will even play -- depends on injuries and if he moves ahead of Withey on the depth chart.

Can he play small ball 5?

I don't believe Evans ever put up numbers. He was athletic but that was about it. Even in college he couldn't rebound. That's a significant advantage over Evans that Bolomboy has. I'm also assuming he's a lot tougher/stronger.

Evans had strong numbers and a really high PER because he would rebound and dunk (which has value). His feel for the game and other skills combined with his inability to get strong enough hurt him. Bolomboy will certainly add strength so that is not a limitation. I was more referring to the fact that he can do some cool stuff and will play hard but may never put enough of it together.

Yes I think he becomes a 5... if he rebounds/defends/and dunks... I could see him as a great compliment to Lyles.

Everyone laughed at me when I said I saw a lot of potential in him during summer league ... guess I'm getting the last laughs.

Let's be intellectually honest here. The reason a lot of people lambasted you is because, I believe, you called him Mailman lite. That's soooo laughable and ludicrous admin should have given you a tempo-ban just for thinking that.

I never said he was, but that he resembled the Mailman physically and that he "could become" Mailman Lite. I never said he was, and I did say that after the first summer league game when he was horrible and I had never seen him play before. So, I think I made a fairly good evaluation in that I did see the potential that his play did not demonstrate.
