What's new

Josh Howard has agreed to terms with Utah

True, but since his best years he's aged 4 years and has one blown ACL under his belt.

Howard is in Utah because he feels he can get minutes so he can prove he's still worth something so he can sign somewhere else next year. I'm sure he'll make some positive contributions on game nights; but when looking at the big picture, I just don't get this move.
We need depth this year due to the compressed schedule. In a normal year, you'd easily be able to get by with 4 bigs and 4 wings. This season, a lot of guys are going to be sucking wind when they play 4 games in 5 nights, etc.

The one year contract means Utah is free and clear if they need the space for 2 draft picks. Besides, if Howard and Tinsley are playing great and Utah is out of the playoff picture, the Jazz can trade them for picks to contenders. Having Miles, Tinsley, Howard and Okur with expiring deals also faciltates any trade opportunties that might pop up.

According to Chris Broussard.

I'm okay with this deal as long as we ship Bell in some kind of trade and get rid of Kirilenko...

If we don't, then I'm with the general consensus in this thread... It just takes away minutes from our young talent...

That hurts our team in the long run...

The NBA isn't like the NFL... If guys with talent just sit and rot (Favors would be a good example, he almost became nothing in New Jersey), they normally don't end up being very good...

Basketball is a rhythm game, there is not so much to learn off the court, you more or less have to get out there and play!

I don't like the idea of two high draft picks just sitting on the bench... They did that with Hayward last year and only when they started playing him consistently, did he start to play well consistently...

Man you guys are tasteless... Howard smokes his weed and is unpatriotic, but when healthy he plays some damn good basketball. Respect this signing and damn you all that don't want the jazz to go far this year.

I'd love it if they won it all. I'd also be thrilled to see them reach the second round. Getting our asses handed to us in the first round, just so we can give our pick away is where I draw the line. Ideally, I'd like to see this team come away with some big wins against good teams, while acquiring a taste for blood. But if a first round shalacking should be the outcome, I'd rather have an extra chance at lottery gold. And for those who continually equate this to "you guys wanna lose on purpose", I will continue to troll.

Interesting that it took 6 pages for this to appear.

What I found interesting in the press releases is that KOC liked his rebounding. Obviously the sour not that was the Jazz' rebounding last year resonated with him.

I was talking about the weed. Which suspension would you like me to tell you about, moron?
You need to test positive (or otherwise get caught) 3 times for weed to earn a 5 game suspension (with "treatment programs" and the like for the first two offenses) . Josh Howard has never been suspended for weed. In his interview with Michael Irvin where he fessed to smoking weed in the offseason, he also stated that he doesn't smoke during the season. Even if he did, if he doesn't get caught 3 times, who cares?

And yes, I would like examples of players suspended for weed.

off the top of my head:

lamar odom.
brad miller.
darius miles.
jason williams.
chris anderson.
brandon rush.
ricky davis.
cliff robinson.
maurice taylor.

there are also any number of other famed smokers who haven't been suspended by the league:
marcus camby.
damon stoudamire.
jr rider.
michael beasley.

i haven't got a problem with any of them.

back on topic, i like this signing.
it says to me that ak's asking price was way too high and the jazz found a comparable role player for (hopefully) much less.
if howard can regain any of his previous form, provide some veteran presence and not rock the boat too much in utah it's a great signing.
