Exactly what stuff was around Kaepernick at the time that should cause people to fight against a peaceful protest and distort the message of why he did it?

I get it, when I first saw highlights of that preseason game and the beginning of that highlight showed him sitting, my first thoughts were negative, but when they showedhis response to questions after the highlights, those negative feelings went away like that.

It has nothing to do with kneeling, it's because it's being done during the National Anthem.
I personally couldn't care less what happens before the games. As long as it doesn't affect the actual game who gives a ****.

If he had done it in defiance of him getting benched or whatever, I’d agree, but the flag symbolizes his right to free speech or protest peacefully. There are a lot of idiots in this country.

People have the right to disagree with said protest.

Both sides need to just let each other be imo. This constant finger pointing is fixing nothing and just dividing us further.

Apparently the public acceptance of kneeling has swung dramatically since the days of Kapernick. I think we’re now left with the usual loud and obnoxious minority.

It truly sucks that the sacrifices rest solely on pioneers.

People will say "I don't want politics mixed in with my sports" and I answer "I agree, they should stop playing the national anthem at sporting events.". Then that same person "that's disrespectful. The anthem should always be played before sporting events"

I wish they would stop playing the national Anthem at sporting events. I see no problem with exercising their right to protest. Many of the people claiming that it is disrespectful probably do not know the words to the national anthem, are drinking beer or talking with friends when it is playing, The American flag has been commercialized and politicized as some symbolic test of a persons patriotism. It is not a requirement of citizenship nor are you more American if you worship it.

In reality it has different meaning for different folks so love it all you want because whether you stand or bow you are still an American. I do find it funny how the loudest complainers about the 'disrespect" are people who wave the Confederate flag and do not trend on me flag thinking they are respecting the country. forgetting those two flags are about leaving the US and over-throwing a federal government if they dare tell them what to do. Irony is lost on that group.

I am worried about this game! New Orleans is a tough win. They have given us all we can handle and some. We barely won one game and then lost another close game. The Pelicans are certainly a team of the future with all that young talent and a boat load of first round draft picks. This game is a toss up and I would not be surprised if we lost. A matter of fact the Jazz have a very tough eight games. I am hoping for 5-3 record.

He seemed to be taking orders from his girlfriend (rumors of coverting to Islam) and she had some pro communism anti-government stuff. I didn't feel he was clear what he was protesting... he was also being benched... none of that was wrong at all... I just wasn't sure exactly what he was protesting and what the motivations were behind it.

He just was kind of a weird messenger imo... raised by a well off white family. I just thought there were likely guys that had experienced racism to a greater degree. I honestly did not understand system racism or how prevalent racism still was.

To be honest it was a "me" problem... but that was kind of how I got there. He was right... he stuck to his guns. I didn't understand or take the time to understand.

I was one that didn't like it early either... it was more about the messenger (there was a lot of stuff around Colin at the time) and it wasn't super clear what he was trying to convey. I get it know and it isn't about disrespecting the flag or the country. Kaep deserves a lot of credit for shining a light on it early and I was definitely wrong for judging his motivations/experience.

I'm still incredibly naïve, but like to think I've made a lot of progress towards understanding these types of issues. Trying to evolve and get better.

Finally excited for this team again. I hope this monumental event in modern human history was enough to re-center the egos on the team and we can get back to seeing the team be what makes us really love them.

I also am bracing for the ignorant Utahans that are gonna be peak butthurt that our team cares about black people.

A big part of him doing what he did was due to conversations he had with actual cops and their experiences with dirty cops. He even said he wanted to give a voice to those that didn’t have a voice.

I didn't feel he was clear what he was protesting... he was also being benched... none of that was wrong at all...

I feel he was very clear why he was protesting in answering questions from reporters after that first game he sat.

I just remembered watching highlights and ESPN showing him sit. I was upset. Then heard why, and felt a sense of pride. It seemed like a worthwhile reason to do what he did. To further that a young man in the military felt he dishonored the flag by sitting and asked him to kneel, the people questioning his reasons for protest should look at this fact. He listened to the service man and followed his instructions. Those are the actions of a man who is sincere about what he is doing.
