Game Thread Jun 16, 2021 08:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Clippers - Game 5

Added to Calendar: 06-16-21

Jazz fans are literally the most delusional people ever when it comes to Gobert. Literally anyone else can understand what happened last night but not Jazz fans. Gobert is a top-3 player in the league to 75% of you. I just can’t. I don’t get it. Why is all of basketball media, national media, fans, etc talking about how Gobert isn’t nearly as effective in the playoffs. Why are they saying he’s the most disrespected DPOY ever. Why can everyone see what’s happening besides Jazz fans.

Some of you literally have the audacity to think that you’re right and literally every other single person in the world who talks basketball and knows basketball is just flat out wrong lmao.

The ratio of people in the world who would agree with what I’m saying is 99.9%. The 0.01% is Jazz fans like Steve and Cy. Wouldn’t that alone make you take a step back and reconsider? Honestly, it’s at all-time embarrassing levels on this board.

Based on that idiotic take which team the last decade won a ring with their second best player being their offensively limited Center who can get schemed against on defense?
The Dallas team with Tyson Chandler is the model... they didn’t have just one second best player though... they had Dirk and like 7 or 8 good to great players... kidd may have been their second best player... Terry, Marion, a few other really high level role players.

Oh the Tyson Chandler making 12.6M a year?

Yup... and therein lies our issue. Rudy is a really great player but if in the second or third round he turns into super Capela then that is a problem with our current salary structure.

There are just too many kryptonite's for his super powers. CP's mid range game, small ball, shooting 5s. Unfortunately I really don't think trading him improves our title hopes. He's worth his contract... but at that number it will be tough to put enough good pieces around him to be a title contender.

Basically I think we have to pray to hit a lotto miracle or find the guy that flamed out elsewhere and then somehow figures it out here. Maybe OP jr. comes for the minimum and all his health issues magically clear up or some ****.

Otherwise we are destined to live in Portland Trailblazers zone of solid playoff team that might break into the conference finals and be dog meat for an actual contender. The NBA is hard and only one team can win it all... when you have a chance you have to go all in and get as many good pieces as possible.

This is you.

Individually, the big shortfall on Gobert's game is his inability to receive the basketball and finish plays without a defender into 5 or 6 feet... besides the lack of a couple more playoff playable dudes in the roster, this is what separates him from a superstar, and the Jazz from real contenders.
The thing is, as other posters have been saying, the Jazz are in a tough spot CBA wise...

I like how when I push back on WC saying Gobert is a defensive liability this series and is getting torched when targetted, he turns it into the ultimate straw man and then proceeds to beat the hell out of it.

If they can't be motivated for literally the biggest game in their careers last night why would they be motivated for Friday? These guys got manhandled by a team missing it's best player.
Biggest game in their careers? Hardly. Wouldn't that be the NBA finals? Hey, the sixers are in the same situation as us and they probably succeed in winning their series. I ain't giving up yet.

Ok name a bigger game that DM, Joe, Gobert, Conley, Faves, Royce, Bogey, Niang, or JC has played in via NBA. Seeing how not one of these guys has ever PLAYED in an NBA finals I'm confused by your point. I mean, you actually have to play a game for it to exist, right?
