Kamala Harris for Pres

I love how Donald has been campaigning to be president longer than I’ve known my wife and still only has a “concept for a health care plan.” Well done.

I love that Taylor Swift finally entered the chat.

Eh, he knows he doesn't need it to get elected. Why waste the energy?

That's when I really "knew" knew who I was voting for.
I know, I want to vote against her choice too, as it just perpetuates the American "ideal" of worshipping the famous and wealthy, and her opinion should matter about as much as my great aunts, but the other option is Donald Trump, so this time I have to go with Taylor on this.

Also trump: “I had no inflation, virtually no inflation,” Trump said.

This is false. Cumulative inflation over the course of Trump’s presidency was about 7.8%.

Also trump: “We have millions of people pouring into our country from prisons and jails, from mental institutions and insane asylums,” Trump claimed.

There is no evidence for Trump’s claim.
Representatives for two anti-immigration organizations said last year they had not heard of anything that would corroborate Trump’s story, as did three experts at organizations favorable toward immigration.

Trump has sometimes tried to support his claim by making another claim that the global prison population is down. But that’s wrong, too. The recorded global prison population increased from October 2021 to April 2024, from about 10.77 million people to about 10.99 million people, according to the World Prison Population List compiled by experts in the United Kingdom.

Also trump: “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats,” Trump said. “They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

This is false. The City of Springfield and the local police have said they have seen no evidence for the claim – which appeared to originate from a Facebook post in which someone purporting to be a local resident passed along what they said was a story about their neighbor’s daughter’s friend.
on Monday a spokesperson for the City of Springfield said “there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.”
The Springfield News-Sun reported that “the Springfield Police Division said Monday morning they have received ZERO reports related to pets being stolen and eaten.”

Also trump: Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday the United States took in billions of dollars from China as a result of his tariffs.

Trump’s claim about how tariffs work is false. A US tariff is paid by importing businesses in the United States – not other countries – when a foreign-made good arrives at the American border.

Here’s how tariffs work: When the United States puts a tariff on an imported good, the cost of the tariff usually comes directly out of the bank account of an American importer.

Study after study, including one from the federal government’s bipartisan US International Trade Commission, have found that Americans have borne almost the entire cost of Trump’s tariffs on Chinese products.

It’s true that the US Treasury has collected more than $242 billion from the tariffs Trump imposed on imported solar panels, steel and aluminum, and Chinese-made goods – but those duties were paid by US importers, not the country of China.

And on and on and on. If I were to go through all his lies I would get nothing done today.

Everyone needs to remember that when trump is speaking he is lying.

If he ain't lying, he ain't speaking.

I can't really remember a celebrity endorsement making a dent in anything before.
I saw something about how right after her endorsement there was a new voter registration increase of 100% or something fwiw.

Found this: How Swift's endorsement will shape the election is yet to be seen, but her message’s reach has already been massive. The General Services Administration told ABC News that, as of 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, more than 330,000 people had visited the voter registration site linked by Swift.

"She knows that she's speaking to a number of people who will be voting either for the first time ever or for the first time for a president," Megan Duncan, an associate professor at Virginia Tech specializing in political communication, told ABC News. "And she knows that getting that bit of education about how to register and that you can vote early in many states is the stuff that celebrities are effective at."

Fans had long anticipated her making an endorsement in the 2024 race. Much of her fanbase is young -- predominately millennials and Gen Z -- a demographic that consistently has lower voter turnout than older generations and whose members may have never voted.

We are in a really tough spot in American politics. Trump lies a lot, doesn’t take responsibility for anything, isn’t a good person, etc. Kamala’s beliefs seem so far left and frankly a lot of stuff that I don’t really agree with. I have more faith in her not saying dumb **** and being presidential tho.

I don’t know, people say debates don’t switch people’s minds but I would say I was leaning Trump but his performance was abysmal. With Biden dropping out he looks very old and frankly some of the stuff he says is shocking.

Kamala is just so far left though. That’s my biggest hang-up but in the end she is younger which I am a big proponent of and she can’t mess things up that much. I mean to be honest with Biden as president my life hasn’t changed much at all except inflation but that would have happened regardless.

If anyone would like to expound on this or share thoughts I would love to hear them. Please refrain from name calling and being condescending.

Thought was was interesting, so I found the story. I stand corrected.

Taylor Swift's post endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the White House on Tuesday drove at least 337,826 users to visit the site vote.gov, a sign of the potential effect her decision to speak out could have on November's election.

Vote.gov is run by a federal agency known as the General Services Administration, in partnership with the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. The site includes information about how to register to vote and cast a ballot, and directs users to state sites where they can register.

In an Instagram post after the presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift wrote that she would be voting for Harris and Gov. Tim Walz, her Democratic running mate. She urged her fans to do their own research and make their voices heard in November.

"I've done my research, and I've made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it's much easier to vote early," she wrote, sharing a custom link to vote.gov in a corresponding Instagram story.

A spokesperson for the GSA said 337,826 users had visited vote.gov through Swift's link as of 2 p.m. Eastern Time Wednesday. The spokesperson noted that new voters must ultimately sign up to vote through their own state-specific website.

Probably a stupid question but do I need to register to vote for this election if I already registered previously and voted in the last 2 elections?

There is a really cool piece of tech that hit the market called the NOVA H1 Audio earing.

They are quite stylish. Kamala Harris seems to be a big fan of that look on debate stages.

Shouldn't need to, but I would verify your registration with your state or county's voting website.
In most states you can register at the polling place right when you vote. You can usually register as No Party Preference if you do not want to be counted among either major political party.
