Kanter Review in the First Preseason Game

Kanter did some things well, but was not able to assert himself on the game. In the first two offensive possessions he got the ball in the post and drew a foul on one and got blocked on the next. He had two nice passes out of the post for three pointers, one by Stockton and one by Ahearn. However, as the game progress he slipped further and further away from how you need him to play. He seemed a step slow on recognition of plays as well as reacting to the ball.

Kanter is never going to be able win with his verticality (new word) and he must learn how to adjust his game to play below the rim and without going above people. Same thing defensively if he is not going to be able to go above the rim and effect plays.

The most discouraging play in the game for me with Kanter was he blew a basic defensive rotation that lead to a dunk. Those are things he should have learned from at this point.

Kanter ran a few pick and rolls with Burks but is not making himself available for the pass as he rolls to the basket. Lastly, Kanter is not going to do things quickly or with explosion so he has to develop what is going to work and what he has to abandon. He is just 20 years old.

Kanter did some things well? He had just five rebounds in 28 minutes, had three points on 1-7 from the field, missed one of his two free throw attempts, had four turnovers, was blocked twice, had three personal fouls, and most importantly, looked like the same overwhelmed, lost puppy on offense like he did all of last year. I know I'm prematurely burning the barn here (I have no idea if that even makes sense but I just felt like typing it) but Jesus, if this was any indication of his improvement, or lack thereof, I'll go out on a limb early on here and say he's going to be a bust.

That said, I hope that goofy Turk kicks *** tomorrow.

Kanter seems to just have 1 move - that up and under move.

For the love of God - I have no idea why, with all the coaches that we have, we haven't been able to help him to develop even a baby hook yet!!!!

Oh for F*** sakes.

What the **** happened to the Nike Hoops summit game? He had like two spin moves that game that made me go "wow". Now he does the same move over and over.

As a staunch Big Al hater I must admit that Kanter is not ready at all. Drummond played better today than any other time that I watched him (which is not a lot of times), but Kanter didn't even bother to show up. I hope that tomorrow is a different story and that I eat my words.

After watching games like this, I have to watch the Nike Hoops summit highlight multiple times to try to make me feel better about Kanter. For this game I had to rewatch those highlights 5 times. Thats pretty high on my scale.

Remember when everyone was freaking out after his first FIBA game or whatever last year? He'll be fine.

He clearly utilizes a spin move in two out of his first three possessions, and had plenty of success with it last year.

Mejri, the guy from Tunisia, had SIX boards in just 12 minutes, as well as 3 blocks. He looked to me to be in good shape, and ran the court well. Looked bigger than his listed 220..

I think we need to give him a chance, he'll develop some type of move offensively. Two things I noticed. 1. how extremely slow he is. Drummond was a lot quicker than Kanter. 2. How he didn't pass the ball. He would be double teamed and still try to make a move. He needs to let the game come to him and he'll look a lot better. This is just the first game but I wasn't impressed much.

On the bright side, Deron "crash" Washington did some nice things. Burks had a really nice drive near the end of the game but commited a couple offensive fouls early. I thought I saw Jeremy Evans on the bench but don't think he played.

That's OK - that's fine.

But where's the hook shot? Tim Duncan used the running hooks almost exclusively to get around Jefferson/Favors.

For crying out loud - Kevin Durant used it against LeBron in the Finals to great effect - and he's playing the SF!!

Even Shaq went on TNT saying he makes his living on 2 moves, the hook shot and the up & under inside shot. They're simply the 2 Moves that works well together.

If you can't sink that hook shot - players are not going to be fooled by the up & under!!!

For the love of God I have no idea why nobody has bothered to teach or tell Kanter to use the hook shot?!?!
