I'm pretty sure most non-Jazz fans would do it. KAT still has potential to grow. Gobert has peaked (i.e. he isn't going to develop an offensive game). Plus, KAT+Favors is a much deadlier duo than Favors+Gobert.

This is crazy how fast this forum turned on KAT. Seems like it was yesterday that he was the next great thing. Now he is trash practically. Lol. Dude, just turned 22. What the hell happened? What am I missing? No one considering how good he might be when he is 27, five long years from now? After developing his game and maturing?

Id be real hesitant to trade Rudy for anyone out of the top 5 in the league, but Cmon, as a GM you would at least consider trading for Towns and take a closer look. Im not even sure Minnesota would do it. Their fans would probably be scoffing at the idea too.

KAT is still a player with huge potential. Nothing has changed.

Gobert has offensive gravity. KAT has little defensive gravity. Once impacts the game enormously, one doesn't, i'll leave you to figure it out.

There are 82 games in a season. 30 teams. Roughly 2 hours to watch a game. That comes out to 4,920 hours

24 hours in a day, times 365 days a year. That comes out to 8,760 hours. Minus a minimum 6 hours of sleep. That leaves 6570 hours to watch basketball.

6,570 total available watching hours vs 4,920 hours of regular season basketball.

Cut that down to available hours during the season (assuming you dont DVR and watch year around) you now have a basketball season of 186 days, times that by 18 waking hours a day, comes out to 3,348 available basketball watching hours.

So now we are at 4,920 basketball hours vs 3,348 available hours to watch.

Now cut your available hours down from 18 to 10 because most likely you have to work or go to school. So now available hours are at(10x186) 1,860.

Now we at 4,920 hours of total watchable regular season basketball vs 1,860 available hours.

I could keep going and taking the hours down for reasonable things such as holidays, family time, taking poo, showering, eating, shaving, sleeping more, reading, wanking it, etc.. and in reality you actually probably only watch maybe 8 hours a week. And thats probably 90% Jazz games only.

So out of 4,920 total basketball hours you actually watch about 216 hours of regular season basketball.

Thats probably if you are a die hard fan. Add another 40 hours or so of playoffs.

Im just saying that when someone says a player cant play defense Im a little skeptical. Stats dont capture the full story on whats going on with the defense of a player

Everyone loves Gobert. His injury history is no joke, KAT hasn't been hurt at all.
If this trade did happen I'd be pissed and excited. Very interesting idea.

How is that? You wouldn't have a true deterrent at the rim, and would still be regularly beat on the perimeter by small ball.
KAT and Taj Gibson were decent together, but not great.

Surprised.. Everybody pretty low on KAT.... Let me play Devil's Advocate. Metrically, hes better on paper than Rudy.

He's 3 Years younger, on a much cheaper contract, and not coming off two knee injuries.
His VORP is 5.5 (Gobert 2.9).
He had the 10th highest PER in the league (24.9, Gobert was 22nd at 20.7)
He had a higher BPM (5.5 to 4.3)
Higher Win Share Rate
More Rebounds.
More Assists.
Only "traditional" stat he doesnt beat RG in is Blocks, but he still gets 1.4 a game.

He shot 42% on 3.5 3pt attempts per game (!!!)

KAT Shoots 86% from the FT line, making his TS% nearly identical to Rudy's, while having a much higher USG%
On that note, his usage is much higher than Rudys, yet he turns it over less than Rudy does.

And he played all 82 games for the 3rd season in a row (!!!) while Rudy was hit with 2 knee injuries (something perhaps not discussed enough, and a chance to be a reoccurring problem with big lankys like Rudy) forcing him to miss nearly a third of the season for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.

People mention KAT's not good defensively. While he's not Rudy (no one is), he had a +1.1 dBPM, which is above average, and averaged over 12 rebs a game (Rudy at just over 10).
Meanwhile, Rudy's offensive BPM was a NEGATIVE (-0.3) while KAT posted a POSITIVE (4.4) offensively.

Would i trade Gobert for KAT 1-1? Probably, TBH, but I'd probably have to pull the trigger with my eyes closed. Rudy is committed, fiery, and is a fan favorite. That said I actually really like KAT, hell just a year ago he averaged 25 & 12 over an 82 games-played season.

I don't scoff at the idea as much as the rest of you i guess.

A 23 year old Kevin Love put up 26 and 13 in Minny, he had a 26 PER there and surely beat Rudy on all those stats as well. Love never came close to those numbers again after leaving Minny while trying to fit into a winning environment.

I don't know for sure but I just don't think Towns could match Rudy's commitment to the Jazz and Utah as a whole. For that reason i'd probably pass on a trade. Of course this would probably never happen in the first place.

Funny what happens when your usage drops by 50% or more. Same thing happened to Bosh in Miami w/ LBJ...

KATs usage would go up in Utah. Thibs is not maximizing him, and Wiggins takes way too many (bad) possessions from him.

I love this team too. If we can’t stay healthy we really hinder outselves, and our linchpin is trending to be injured nearly a third of the season every year. He’s hurt those knees 2 or 3 times and as lanky as he is, and with our game plan funneling every play toward him, one twist of a knee could easily tear something. I really hope that doesn’t happen, because our team is basically unwatchable without him.

Injuries can happen to anyone, that said KAT has played all 82 three seasons in a row. Having a healthy team is one of the best predictors for consistency.
