Larry Sanders New Deal

I compare Sanders with Tyson Chandler and Joakim Noah. While I think Joakim's offensive and offcourt value is higher, I think Sanders is the better defender str8 up.
With Chandler it's already pretty close, other than Chandler being a former DPOY and NBA champion. If while in his prime he's getting close to Chandler $44M is a steal(Sanders is turning 25 in November). So if he can get more scoring off boards and rolling to the basket, he's gonna be really valuable. I'd much rather pay reasonable money for a defensive center who leaves you enough financial flexiblity to add firepower and a franchise player next to you than unreasonable for one who thinks he's the **** like Cousins and plays inefficient.

Sanders has a sweet mid jumper unlike Noah and Chandler. As a pure defending big man, I'd take Chandler out of the three. Noah lacks length and Sanders chases for blocks and leaves his positions a lot.

Noah makes up by power and athleticism(38 inch max vert at draft combine)
NOah's midrange game is very efficient as well. Big time free throw shooter and the open midrange Js are falling as well.

Yep, Noah is the best player out of three, overall. But I don't like his mid J because it's very low, slow and really ugly.

Favors will get $12M-$14M
Do a little research. Favors getting that much in an extension would be (easily) unprecedented for a player with his resume. Al Horford only got $11mm per year after 3 very productive years as a starter on a playoff team.

What? They are both worth it. Starting centers are worth 10 million a year base average.

How about their durability, character, potential and if they are actually helping team to win more? Now it is really sad that if you are starting center than you are automatically entitled to 10mil year average. Remember Dampier? He played well during contract year, got rewarded with big contract and disappeared completely. I guess it is such a reality in today's NBA.

$20M for both? That's a pipe dream. Favors will get $12M-$14M and Gordon $10-12M. These are players valued highly enough to be invited to the national team tryouts. Gordon is going to be an 18 pt/per scorer with one of the highest shooting percentages amongst wings. If the Jazz don't lock him up early, someone will step forward with a BIG contract. Same with Derrick. Favors is a defensive monster with an improving offensive game. If fouls don't hold him back, his scoring will likely double. And both of these players are only going to get better through the length of their contracts. I predict the Lakers go hard after one - or both. LA will have loads of cap space.

I wasn't the one originally saying that 20 million was possible. I don't think it is either but if the Jazz had any chance to do it they would have to act now. I think giving Favors more than 12 M is ridiculous. Sorry but paying him on his potential is what you do when you draft him. Unless Favors dominates offensively while playing defense like he has shown, paying him more than 12 million would be a mistake.

Remember the Jazz have leverage because Favors has underachieved his first three years and they have Kanter and two first round picks this year 2014. Now if Favors comes out and puts up 20 pts 10 rebounds with great defense then I would be on board giving him more but right now he doesn't deserve more than 10-12 million a year.

Facts and logic versus insults......

Why do yall insist that Gordon is equal to paul George? What George signs for will have no bearings on Gordons contract. Do yall even watch basketball? Eye test shows Paul georvge is 3 times the player Hayward is

Pretty insulting stuff, nocoloradojazz, maybe we just debate the facts instead of shouting people down?

The flaw in your argument is the assumption that players must be "equal" in order to influence the market price for subsequent contracts. Players need to be in some ways comparable in order to affect market price. Both are wings from the same draft class, with contracts up the same year, with the same 2012/2013 PER (16.8) and have been selected for and performing well on the USA Select team. So the argument that one contract has zero influence on the second contract is dubious at best. And the assumption that George is 3X the player is so far adrift that it is hard to even contemplate or respond (If you said 30% better, perhaps we could have an intelligent conversation on the matter)

Peace brother.

If true, that would be a steal.

Word. I can see many advantages into going into next year with as much or even less salary committed than this offseason (I need to do more research on what the cap holds for Hayward and Favors would since if it's just the QO then that's ridiculously in the Jazz's favor), but if the Jazz can nail down Favors and Hayward for $20/year then you have to do it.

Agree.

I would be absolutely floored if the Jazz lock up both for 20 mill in total.

Also, Favors's potential > Sanders. At least IMO

No one is debating that. I'll I'm simply saying is that right now Sanders is the better NBA player. Favors CAN and SHOULD be better but right now he is not.

Or, rather, he hasn't been. Maybe MaSloan and the opportunity has made a sizable change that we've yet to see.
