Las Vegas: Worst Mass Shooting in US History

Comparison of the affects of misuse of 2 non-necessary items in American society. Just food for thought.

Interesting note on top of that. According to a new study:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/09/22/study-guns-owners-violence/90858752/

3% of Americans own half of the guns privately owned.
Only 22% of Americans own guns. So that means the majority 78% do not own a gun.
"Between 300,000 and 600,000 guns are stolen each year."
No surprise but "Gun owners tend to be white, male, conservative, and live in rural areas."

For Comparison to alcohol:
https://www.niaaa.nih.gov/alcohol-health/overview-alcohol-consumption/alcohol-facts-and-statistics
"86.4 percent of people ages 18 or older reported that they drank alcohol at some point in their lifetime; 70.1 percent reported that they drank in the past year."

Why are you makin a case for prohibition?

all these gun control idiots. you do know criminals ignore laws right?

or do you think laws are magical and criminals abide by them!?

But, but, everyone knows the media is liberal and liberals want to take our guns away, just like Obama did. Why would they intentionally not report gun violence when doing so would support their liberal agenda?

Is it because aliens are really running everything and they are the ones responsible for killing Kennedy for sleeping with their girlfriend, Marilyn Monroe? Or maybe because Elvis is still alive and he's the one who helped Jimmy Hoffa cover up the faked moon landing.

Really makes you think.

Are resident thought suppression soldier. Good job young man you are bein considered for promotion.

For me the big difference in those scenarios are two sided: While a typical alcoholic usually kills himself by drinking, a gun can be directed at others. I do not know how many of those listed in your quote are intended suicides, but it's a big deal for me. Liberty means you have the right to decide what happens with yourself. Pointing guns at others who may have different plans for themselves is a big no-no for me. I'll concur that sometimes alcoholics are also violent towards others, somtimes even to an extent where someone else dies as a result, but I'd wager that this happens way less frequent than gun violence towards others.
If you are angry and lack coping mechanisms or self-awareness, having a gun at your disposal can quickly have ugly consequences. When you're drunk and develop anger and don't have a gun available it's the same ****ing procedure to find yourself a less unfair weapon.
Ppl will find weapons if they want to find them, having guns around you makes it easy to make decisions that someone might regret.
This doesn't mean that alcohol in general is less of a threat, it just means when you look at short term decisions I see a difference, long term alcohol is obviously more fatal.

My liberty means I can have a tank to protect myself and my family.

Truthfully I'm not a wiener like you I can protect myself without a gun. I don't need a weapon.

Unless they have a crazy nice knife, then I need a bigger knife or better a gun, but then they will get a gun. So i need a fully auto gun or better yet a grenade. But also what if they have a bomb? Maybe I need landmines in my yard to protect myself. Or what if North Korea doesn't like me???!!! I guess I need nukes to protect myself and my family.

Nah, I'm no snowflake like Dutch, I can protect myself with my hands and maybe duct tape. I'll MacGyver my protection. Or use the gun I own.

The 88k also accounts for deaths due to drunk driving. They did not break that out in the statistic. It also did not account for people injured while using alcohol or injuring others, which is not insignificant.

Here we go:

Every day, 28 people die as a result of drunk driving crashes on average. In 2010, 10,228 people died in drunk driving crashes – one every 52 minutes – and 345,000 were injured. In 2010, people killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes accounted for nearly one-third (31%) of all traffic-related deaths.
