Somehow I had never heard this song in the 80's, even tho I knew Talking to a Stranger and When the River Runs Dry. It has become one of my favorites from the era, altho I must say I hate the Eddie Vedder version.
Speaking of Midnight Oil, this is a great video. It's definitely from a US perspective, obvs, as they were definitely not a One Hit Wonder down there, but he really kind of digs into the meaning and explains it to Americans. There's footage of him singing it with Mark Seymour floating around too which isn't bad. I was going to say isn't it a 90's release but no its 1984!! Wow!!! Hunters and Collectors kinda lived in the shadow locally of Cold Chisel, Crowded House, Midnight Oil and INXS. And then you had the 90's 'grunge' bands that went on to displace them on commercial radio. Throw your arms around me and holy grail are both pub anthems which is probably the only reason they're still remembered.

"You know how in America, we have this thing, where we tend to screw over black people and screw over the natives? Well, in Australia, the black people ARE the natives, so they were able to screw them over MUCH more efficiently than we did."
