Late check out at a hotel?

Silly question.....

I will be in Los Angeles on Monday and I just found out my flight got cancelled and changed to a late evening flight. Check out is at 11 a.m. at the hotel and I don't really want to sit at the airport for 10 hours.

Have any of you bargained with the hotel for a late checkout? I was thinking of calling them and asking to get a checkout at 5pm.

Has anyone tried this? What does it usually cost?

Just looking for any insight before I call them.

You can usually leave your luggages in their store room if you wanna have a wonder around the city without the added baggage.

Yea but I have work to do. So I would rather be on my laptop working in the hotel room rather than sitting and trying to work at the airport.

Then why not leave the luggage with them, tell them u'll pick it up later, and walk to the library, get your work done then come back?

If it were me I would have just gone to the cinema and catch a movie or two.

I get a late checkout at most hotels I go to, but the limit is usually 1 p.m. and occasionally 2. You should be able to get that, at minimum. One time in Wendover I bought an extra late checkout for $20 or $25, which was good until 5 p.m.

I'd explain your situation to the desk clerk and see if they have anything to offer. It shouldn't be too difficult.

Yea I grew some balls and called them, for $79 bucks I will get until 6 PM. The cost of the room was $120 per night....still debating if I will do it.

This should be voted as best thread of the year.

Wow, what a rip off. I'd rather do the Library scenario or catch up on my movies for that price.

There's a couple other things I can think of that would cost me less than $79 that I'd rather do in that time as well.... like visiting a "friend" in the suburb.

I don't drink, do drugs, or bang prostitutes......and watching a movie by myself in the afternoon is really depressing.

Monday is supposed to be super nice so maybe I take my laptop to the beach and hangout. But then I will want to shower....so maybe the 79 bucks is worth it.

Never said that.

But there's nothing wrong with helping out people in need, instead of giving it to the big corporates, I reckon. $79 is nothing to these big hotel chains, but it could make a world of difference to someone struggling to buy groceries or pay electric bill.

I've been saving myself for the one. That one prostitute that the second I meet her I will know that we were meant to bang together.

But that's the same as hanging out at the airport...

Coffee and snacks are likely cheaper.

Unless internet is needed, I'd just check my luggage with the bellman and find a nice comfy seat in the lobby. Probably will be able to find an outlet somewhere if needed. Personally, I'd recommend a trip to the old LA Forum. It's in a wonderful neighborhood.

BTW, there is a wonderful business near the airport that advertises "Live Nudes." My dad always used to laugh when we'd pass it on the way to drop him off for his flight. He'd always say, "as opposed to dead ones?"

I'm interested, tell me more.

Usually cost is the overtime you are paying a GRA and most of them make about $20 an hour.

What hotel? Where?

Like someone else mentioned, most places will let you keep your room for a couple hours past checkout without an extra charge unless they're fully booked.

If it's a hotel that has a nice lobby area and business center you might consider hanging out there for a few hours rather than spending the extra money.
