Late check out at a hotel?

What hotel? Where?

Like someone else mentioned, most places will let you keep your room for a couple hours past checkout without an extra charge unless they're fully booked.

If it's a hotel that has a nice lobby area and business center you might consider hanging out there for a few hours rather than spending the extra money.

Its a Double Tree in LA.

Ahhhh, the one on Sepulveda Blvd. I know it well. Stereophile used to have it's yearly Audio shows there.

Anyway, I'm not sure why you just don't check out at the regular check out time and then go to a Starbucks or Coffee Bean?

It's a good option but I'm usually on the phone a lot. So the less noise the better.

You seem really ****ing high maintenance. Pay the $79 or set up at the hotel bar and have some libations while you're waiting.

If it's a business trip just pay the money and include it in your expense report. If it's not, quit being whiny and just pay it. 79 bucks won't bankrupt you.

I don't think anyone is saying that, we're just wondering if it can be better spent.

Is that what we're wondering? Sure. Absolutely it can be better spent. Beer. Records. A nice shirt. A nice dinner. A bottle of Bulleit whiskey.

That said, convenience sometimes costs. Beanbro might be willing to pay for the convenience of being able to sit in his room and access whatever Excel spreadsheets Culligan Water reps need to access.

Unless the hotel is full they usually have no problem with a late checkout provided it isn't unreasonable. 5 would likely be reasonable and shouldn't cost anything as long as they have other rooms available.

It should have gone into the random question thread. Really.

Then I don't think we could have covered it as in depth as we had covered it here. I'm reasonably happy with the discussions here and all the options presented to Beantown. Hopefully it was beneficial to him.

Thanks to all those for the responses and suggestions. I just got home. I ended up finding a Starbucks with a nice patio and view of the beach. The weather was perfect and it was quiet enough where I could work and be on the phone.

Saved 79 bucks minus the 48 dollar parking ticket (totally forgot to refill the meter)
