The second sentence absolutely reinforces the suggestion of service to others.Well your second sentence was ambiguous.
For those championing compulsory military service here’s a study with the following findings:
“Our results show that the compulsory military service has a strong and long-lasting negative effect on physical health. Moreover, people who are drafted into the armed forces are more likely to consume more alcohol and cigarettes even years after they are discharged. Our results are of great interest to decision-makers weighing the pros and cons of conscription armies: mandatory military service adversely affects the male labor force and exacerbates drinking and smoking behavior.”

Almost all South Korean men serve in the country's armed forces for two years. In this paper, we investigate whether the military service affects the health of draftees. Using an event study design, we use the conscription years to identify the ...www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Not trying to make it a big deal, it started out answering the question as to why Lauri’s mandatory military service was cut short. It's because drinking and smoking are extremely prevalent in South Korean military (according to the paper you linked). This is a more culture-specific finding than a general consequence of civil service. Finland is just about the most peaceful country on earth. You're making too big a deal out of this.
DG. I got 23d extra leave for being athletic, able to shoot and not a total moron. I spent last four weeks basically at home. I would imagine Markkanen would have been eligible for 12d or so and that's two weeks off base duty. 3d I got from two separate regiment commanders for we/I exceeded expectations. That's their prerogative in any given army that I heard of. Fairly confident it's all by the books. You’ve got an idea as to why? Let’s share it.
So it’s all arbitrary?DG. I got 23d extra leave for being athletic, able to shoot and not a total moron. I spent last four weeks basically at home. Actually its a norm that states all athletes are eligible for 45-95 days of training leave/commandments depending on their level. Lauri was certainly eligible for the maximum. So it’s all arbitrary?
Seems like they’ve left it a lot of room for the officials to be “creative” with their leniency… lol..
So how many days in total do you have to do as a Finnish citizen?Actually its a norm that states all athletes are eligible for 45-95 days of training leave/commandments depending on their level. Lauri was certainly eligible for the maximum.
He spent end of April, all of May and most of June in service thus fulfilling almost all of his 70 day minimum in regular service.
165 days is standard sport school service. Other service lines are of varying length, from 165 to 360. Most lines over 270 days long are for officers snd many of them can also provide benefits useful after the military. So how many days in total do you have to do as a Finnish citizen?
Also is it just male or female as well?
So Lauri needs to do 165 days.. how many did he do last year?165 days is standard sport school service. Other service lines are of varying length, from 165 to 360. Most lines over 270 days long are for officers snd many of them can also provide benefits useful after the military.
Only men are mandated, but women are accepted as volunteers.
There is also civillian service which essentially means standard office work and doesnt include firearm trainings etc.
There are specific service lines for military musicians, cooks, drivers (allowing you to get "free" military heavy vehicle drivers license that can be converted to regular one pretty easily), and other lines that have career benefits.
Also they pay all conscripts 6-13€ per service day as well as covering their appartment rental/loan costs for the duration.
No. The 45-95 training command days reduce the 165 total. So Lauri needs to do 165 days.. how many did he do last year?
Let’s say 2 months.. 60 days.
He should in theory have to do another 100 days, no?
So a typical Fin has to do 360 days of military service.No. The 45-95 training command days reduce the 165 total.
Lauri is done and it went by the rules. He served 70 days total regular training on site and rest of them by playing/training with the national team (+ last 2 weeks training for the NBA season).
It's karmaSo a typical Fin has to do 360 days of military service.
Lauri gets 165 is for being a sports person.
Then reduced further by 100 for training with the national team.
In total he only does 60 days?
Wow, that’s Privilege with a capital P.
I wont bite for your trolling so dont bother. Acting butthurt from 20 000 km away when the actual Finns here are fine with it just makes you look ignorant. So a typical Fin has to do 360 days of military service.
