In the dante Olympic thread i mentioned the risk of zika and the post was taken down. I thought it was over zealous PC but then i see its ok to mention in regards to Hayward. Can the mods please explain.

If the post was taken down it was not beacause you mentioned Zika. Perhaps there was another reason that got you a warning or infraction. I have not looked into it and am just guessing.

The math tells me that you can reduce the risk of passing Zika to a fetus to almost nothing if you are careful. Tiny risks can seem ginormous when the media puts their spotlight on them, though, and I completely understand someone deciding that they are not comfortable with any risk of Zika, no matter how small. It's still sad that they are giving up their dreams for it.

Personally, I think anyone planning on having children would be nuts to take any chances whatsoever with this type of thing. My understanding is that this has been around for a long time, and we don't really know why it's suddenly becoming so much more common in humans, as opposed to primates that it mostly existed in previously. Viruses evolve, no? Maybe you know a lot more about it than I do, but I don't blame anyone in the process of making babies for not wanting to **** with it.

If you choose to be careful your risk of having an effected child is very small.

What percentage of children are being born with this condition in the populations native to the areas with the virus? I recently returned from Puerto Rico which is one of the areas the virus is common. If it was having any real impact on that population, though, it was completely invisible to me.

If the man gets it, the rest of your argument is over. Nobody would want to live with that, and like I said, it's not nearly as simple as just wearing a rubber. People do other things.

And yes, it's been around a long time. However, it has not been a considerable concern for humans until recently. There is a group of scientists who want the Olympic games moved because they are concerned that people from around the world could contract it and take it back to places all over the globe. The main concern is that we don't know why it is suddenly becoming much more common among humans instead of just primates, and that it may be a threat in places it never was before. Like I said, my understanding is that viruses evolve, and it's a concern that this one is doing something it hasn't done until recently.
