Locke: Hayward has declined the offer to play for Team USA

I agree, Hayward played the second most minutes this season and ran the second most miles this season. I am pretty sure he has been at the top of that list for 3 years in a row.

this. the burden on him, offensively and defensively, has been enormous. the focus of every defensive scheme, and often guards the other teams best player. I can't wait until he gets some adequate help
These things make me think I could be wrong about Hayward and how good he could really be.

David Locke seems to think having a facilitating point guard like Hill will help Hayward. He said for the last 3 years Hayward has been responsible for doing so much, now that Hill is hear to take some of that burden, Hayward will improve.

I guess we'll see if Locke is right.

I think they should hedge that bet and get Durant or DeRozan too. That'll help take some of the burden off Hayward.

Does that mean that the other guys who declined before Hayward get the recognition of being an Olympian too?...

I hope so. I also informed USA Basketball that I was declining to participate. I haven't yet heard back when I will be receiving my official team jersey, participation trophy, etc.

Really? If everyone keeps saying no and they eventually ask me I'm saying yes. I don't really understand why someone wouldn't go because of Zika. Are these people unaware of birth control? Don't they have any idea how cool the Olympics is?

You do realize that no method of birth control is 100% effective?

Small, but real, risk but HUGE downside. You do the math.

His wife is pregnant and I think she is due around the same time of the Olympics. Sometimes people sacrifice their dreams for their family. Call it a crazy life choice, but most people don't seem to regret it.

If my father told me he sacrificed an Olympic gold medal to be at an event that I don't remember, I'd be pissed at him. Just for the fact that I wouldn't be able to inherit an Olympic gold medal.

The math tells me that you can reduce the risk of passing Zika to a fetus to almost nothing if you are careful. Tiny risks can seem ginormous when the media puts their spotlight on them, though, and I completely understand someone deciding that they are not comfortable with any risk of Zika, no matter how small. It's still sad that they are giving up their dreams for it.

You might not have the opportunity to tell him that because your mother might have killed him. While men often missed childbirth just a generation ago, it's become a major no-no today. This is probably a more reasonable reason to miss the Olympics than Zika because it could lead to doghouse time that would be no bueno.

In the dante Olympic thread i mentioned the risk of zika and the post was taken down. I thought it was over zealous PC but then i see its ok to mention in regards to Hayward. Can the mods please explain.

I have no idea what you're talking about, sorry. I don't the any of the mods took down a post about zika.

If the post was taken down it was not beacause you mentioned Zika. Perhaps there was another reason that got you a warning or infraction. I have not looked into it and am just guessing.

Basicaly i said i wanted to see him represent his country, but I'd prefer a zika virus free Exum for next season.

Its probably because he didnt have enough post to be verified and it never actually got posted.

Zika can be transmitted from a man to his sex partners.
Maybe his wife swallows, and he doesn't want to give that up? Not really a joke, either.

Personally, I think anyone planning on having children would be nuts to take any chances whatsoever with this type of thing. My understanding is that this has been around for a long time, and we don't really know why it's suddenly becoming so much more common in humans, as opposed to primates that it mostly existed in previously. Viruses evolve, no? Maybe you know a lot more about it than I do, but I don't blame anyone in the process of making babies for not wanting to **** with it.

I don't fault anyone for not being willing to take a risk at any level, no matter how small. The risk for a man is the percentage likelhood that he'll get the diseas, times the risk that he's unaware that he has the disease, times the risk that it is transmitted despite wearing a condom, times the risk that he impregnates a woman despite any birth control precautions she takes (which for some women might go as far as the morning after pill or even abortion) times the risk that the disease is transferred to the fetus and results in the birth defects. If you choose to be careful your risk of having an effected child is very small.

What percentage of children are being born with this condition in the populations native to the areas with the virus? I recently returned from Puerto Rico which is one of the areas the virus is common. If it was having any real impact on that population, though, it was completely invisible to me.

And as you said, this is not a recent virus. It's been around for at least 70 years.

If the man gets it, the rest of your argument is over. Nobody would want to live with that, and like I said, it's not nearly as simple as just wearing a rubber. People do other things.

And yes, it's been around a long time. However, it has not been a considerable concern for humans until recently. There is a group of scientists who want the Olympic games moved because they are concerned that people from around the world could contract it and take it back to places all over the globe. The main concern is that we don't know why it is suddenly becoming much more common among humans instead of just primates, and that it may be a threat in places it never was before. Like I said, my understanding is that viruses evolve, and it's a concern that this one is doing something it hasn't done until recently.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Joe Bag might not have an active sex life? And that maybe this has been true for a while?

I'd avoid doing something that might condemn me to a life with a rubber. Obvi.

Let's face it, was Hayward going to get much playing time with DeRozan and Paul George and Durant and Klay and, etc, etc, on the team?

He made the SMART choice.
