What's new

Locker room trouble?

Cherry picking? Sure it is.

I still think i could have coached this team to those 2 wins against horrible team though so what i think what i said is still true

Not hard to tell the players to drive and dish off pnr... I bet you'd go 2-16 and throw in a few entertaining plays like Kanter shooting threes. FWIW, I think Corbin should make losing fun for the players, which the fans will also enjoy. I'm guessing running more is part of that.

I certainly think that they do. I feel that this was a one and done type of year. The Jazz may not be a playoff team next year but they will be a 9th or 10th seed with 40ish wins.

Here is the dilemma:

I think with a top 5 pick, the Jazz can get back to the playoffs really quickly.

BUT, if they want to compete and WIN titles, then need another top 5 pick.

So, do you go back to the Deron days and try to win now, or do you go back to the Stockton/Malone days, when you had a shot to win it all?

So you are basically advocating tanking a second straight season? No, I think we take this year and go for it. We still have multiple picks in the coming years.

Jazz made an honest effort to go for it all with Deron. They fell short but they were looking at more than win now. They even got to the WCFs.

Triangleman, you have to understand the mentality behind the pitchfork crowd. These fans don't know the first thing about x's and o's, idolize good coaches as some sort of gods who work miracles to cover up player deficiencies, while overvaluing the talent on their team and downplaying the greatness of the players under these great coaches -- Thibs has always had elite defenders yet they give Thibs all the credit and none to the players...

I get why the outrage, I do, even if it is all baseless, disproved, hyperbolic nonsense. When you place coaches on that high of a pedestal you're going to loathe any result that doesn't live up to your fantastic expectations, no matter how outlandish they are. That's exactly what happened with Corbin.

oh sidney

If we make the playoffs next year the player we got in the draft will be much better than Deron.

Well then you should start polishing your resume and practicing your interview skills because according to you the job will be opening up this summer.:)

Thing is, I think we'd've probably won more had we ran. Our wings are pretty crappy in the halfcourt, but rather stellar in the open floor, and it's not like our bigs can't run. As you know, I am a big proponent of Kanter having free reign to shoot 3's because of the long term benefit when they start going in. Even if Kanter shot less than 30% from 3, the trade off for the extra point and floor spacing would be well worth it. Marvin could actually play the 3, and this team could've been slightly better defensively.

Nah
I personally hope the jazz do better than 2-16 in march of next year.

I would probably be equal to corbin as a coach.
I want someone better though

Jazz

I agree.
I dont wanna tank anymore.

we'd've

Awesome

Wishful thinking much??

We should be so lucky.

To me that is the one most likely to happen. Ty is not in negotiations. All season long we heard from the ownership and FO that Corbin will be judged on defense more than wins this year. Well guess what...our D is ranked last in the league. Corbin is gone.

Yeah but Lindsey had a convo with Ty at the beginning of the season. I wonder what he said to motivate Ty for the year ahead. Surely he didn't say "Hey, we've stripped your roster - let's see how you go, cos, you know, if you suck, we'll just cut ya".

I can't believe any coach could be motivated hearing that....

He told him, we gutted your roster so we won't judge you on wins but on the fundamentals you teach the team. (Like defensive rotations). Corbin has not achieved that. He had his chnace and didn't deliver.

Still a pretty tough ask though, when you're losing it's hard to motivate your team to play defense. A lot of the games are blowouts by the 3rd quarter too.

Dennis is the GM for sure, but isn't Ty buddy buddy with Greg and Gail was nearly brought to tears when she said all those good things about Ty at the Press Conference when he was hired? IIRC, She said something along the lines of "Sloan was with us 20+ years, and we hope you can do the same".

Ty is not going to get fired. He might not coach the jazz next year, but I would be shocked if he wasn't part of the Jazz organization. Vp of player development and scouting or something. Jazz repay loyalty with loyalty. And retread everyone. Ty has done a difficult job and never complained about the owners or GM to the media. He will be a jazzman forays long as he wants. I think it was all worked out before the season began.

Yeah IAWTP.

Update: I was listening to Locke's podcast yesterday, and according to Locke, the Jazz were dead last in the league in defense for the month of March.

You can blame the players, sure, but you also gotta blame the coach. Either, the Jazz players simply aren't capable of playing good defense or are just bad defenders (Looking at the level of athleticism on the team, I'm less inclined to believe this one), the defensive schemes don't work well, for whatever reason (this is more credible to me), and/or Corbin doesn't do a good job teaching/motivating his players to play defense (this also seems more credible to me).

I cannot believe that dead last defensively in the league fulfills Lindsay's objectives for Corbin and the team at the beginning of the year. Honestly, and with all the objectivity I can possibly muster, I just do not see how the Jazz can renew Corbin's contract and seriously tell the fans that they are committed to building a winner.
