I get that the Millers own the Jazz and the Jazz are valued at around 800 mil. But again, we were talking about year-to-year net profit, not asset value. The value of the arena is irrelevant. They own the arena because they PAID for it. They won’t re-coup the expense because it’s declining in value. It’s like my car. Plus they have sunk additional money into upgrades and renovations and plan to sink another 100 mil into it in the near future. In any case, I don’t have the problem you seem to have with Gail’s net worth. Larry started in the parts department and built an empire. I don’t really hate them for that. The Millers own the arena. Does any other owner own the arena?
They own outright the Jazz. No loan payments.
Their payroll was second lowest last year?
They are top in attendance.
Forbes has Gail valued at 1.6 billion, claiming most of that comes from the Jazz. And none of this includes all the money they make off the Jazz selling cars, movies, etc
We know this guy, right?
Grantland had the Jazz profiting between 14-30 million a year. Forbes has their profits around 30 million a year.
The Millers will never leave because the Jazz are the center of everything they do. And until we stop throwing money at them for a mediocre product...well, don't expect anything to change.
The rest is all pure speculation. The only known expense is the team payroll which fluctuates from year to year. It’s low now but that will change in the next couple of years. If you want to rely on Grantland and Forbes, that’s fine, but they’re speculating too. I can’t speak for the Miller’s motivation. Do they care about a championship? I think they do, and will be willing to spend when the time comes. This summer will be telling. I also don’t consider our team to be mediocre. Without the injuries there’s a good chance we end up as the 5 seed and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
