Lottery Standings

I said it before and I'll say it again. We're getting this pick. I heard those fools on 1280 or 1320 or whatever say "Sorry Jazzfans, we're not getting that pick." Listen to the wise people, like old Craig.

were they basing that on the denver game? that's stupid, that's a game the Ws would lose regardless.

the fact of the matter is, all the other teams around them are in tank mode, too. the injuries that freak mentioned, all the players getting shut down, and the fact that we're talking about bad teams to begin with. even if GSW gets just one more win, then jersey would have to finish 3-5 against a brutal schedule and without lopez in order to bump GSW down. toronto would have to go 4-4, and we're not talking about a .500 team here (especially if you look at their schedule).

like i said before... detroit will probably take over 9th (depending on injuries), and GSW will either wind up alone in 8th, or tied up and needing a coin toss to decide our fate.

Gerald Wallace doesn't look to be playing tonight in the Nets v. Philly game. Not sure what the story is there. NJ started two shooting guards.

Edit: Philly blows out the Nets in NJ.

New Jersey looking that terrible is a huge sign for us. If they are this bad every game now there is no chance they overtake GSW.

Updated with Tuesday's games. If Golden State doesn't win another game:

8th Detroit would have to go 2-7 to pass GS (likely)
7th New Jersey, 2-5 to pass (possible, but an additional win or two by GS would make a huge difference)
6th Toronto, 3-5 to pass (possible, but less likely than NJ)
5th Cleveland, 4-7 to pass (really hard to imagine the Cavs winning 4 more)
4th Sacramento, 4-4 to pass (ditto, especially with only 8 chances)

It's hard to see the Warriors' fan base getting excited about season tickets for a team that finishes the season 0 - 11 after expecting the playoffs earlier in the year. I think they have to throw in a couple wins to look credible as a franchise. But that's just me. Some Warriors fans think there is a deal on the table with the Jazz to give GSW their pick back. Not sure what that would be.

So if GSW wins no games and Pistons win 2 (likely) and Nets and Toronto win 1 and 2 then we will have a coin toss for 6-8 between 3 teams. Not as bright as when you show records "to pass".

Need another Warriors win or two to solidify our chance at this pick. Worst possible scenario is that they finish where we like and end up jumping into the top 3 because of the lotto balls.

or have an organization be smart enough to know getting an 8 seed and a predictable steamroll by OKC or SA is not what the fans want or what the team needs.listening to Harpring last night is whats wrong with the Jazz, they think if we make the playoffs then thats what will fill the seats next year and they have donr their best job.they dont go about putting something together that long term could win a championship, its just fool the shheep so they can stay above water.last night was the pentacle of stupidity.if you are trying to put together a championship team ,you lose this game against Golden St.,and play the hell out of the young guys, instead Ty is playing the sick and wounded for a winner take all victory that couldnt be farther from the truth.I dont want a first round exit team,it would be nice to build somthing the right way and start kickin butt in the playoffs instead of yearly piniatas for the teams that know how to put a team together.
Because the NBA is full of examples of teams that became great by tanking to get late lottery picks? Name one team that falls into that category.

It's a little different when talking about tanking to get a better position (late lottery vs. mid-teens) vs. having a lottery pick or NOT having ANY pick.

This isn't about becoming great by getting a late lottery pick. It's about improving the team by adding an asset at a time that maximizes it's value to our rebuild. I would never suggest losing on purpose. That should NEVER be an option. However, if our coaching staff just happened to decide that this would be good game to rest up certain players more than usual, and give other guys more minutes than usual, I think that would have been an absolutely FANTASTIC decision.

Here's a list of teams that have improved at some point by adding an asset at the right time.

Boston Celtics
New Jersey Nets
New York Knicks
Philadelphia 76ers
Toronto Raptors
Dallas Mavericks
Houston Rockets
Memphis Grizzlies
New Orleans Hornets
San Antonio Spurs
Chicago Bulls
Cleveland Cavaliers
Detroit Pistons
Indiana Pacers
Milwaukee Bucks
Denver Nuggets
Minnesota Timberwolves
Portland Trail Blazers
Oklahoma City Thunder
Utah Jazz
Atlanta Hawks
Charlotte Bobcats
Miami Heat
Orlando Magic
Washington Wizards
Golden State Warriors
Los Angeles Clippers
Los Angeles Lakers
Phoenix Suns
Sacramento Kings

I think 2 wins and we wrap this baby up. Tomorrow would be a nice win, especially if Portland shuts Aldridge down.
