What's new

Maybe it is just rough in December. The food trucks that all sell the same stuff were also a bit off-putting
There is a variety, but yeah, a lot of the same. A friend of mine owns Takorean, I know they went brick and mortar but I think they still do the truck. DC and Portland are two cities I lived in that I miss the food, but am glad I don't have to raise my kids in either one.

Quite honestly if we keep this level of dirtyness up for the rest of the season and Silver doesnt at least issue a warning, then I'm kinda sold on the assumption that NBA doesnt care about small market teams tanking.
I think if we were as dirty next year as we were this year, there would probably be more consequences. Jazz haven't had a top two pick my entre fandom (we had to trade up to get a top 3 pick.) I don't think any team can begrudge us one year of intentionally sucking. Likely because the NBA knows they are giving us that 6 pick either way.

How much revenue did the league lose last night by the Jazz not playing their full roster?

How much national attention are the Jazz getting for not playing their full roster?

The league doesn't care.

So, funny story, me and the wife are watching the game and she asks me why all the starters aren’t playing. I told her the jazz were tanking. She looked at me like I was an idiot and asked what that meant. I told her the Jazz were trying to lose on purpose. She was upset and wanted to watch something else, I had to put my foot down. Lol

Can you guys imagine the jazz trying to tank back in the 90’s or even the 2000’s? All hell would be breaking loose in that locker room. Why aren’t there rumors of descension. Malone would’ve gotten his own radio talk show and spent the summer crucifying the Jazz. I’d be pissed if I were Markkanen. Lol different times I guess.

I never ever thought they would care from business perspective. Thats a gimmie.

But from "integrity of the sport" perspective there has to be a line somewhere. Maybe the logic is that Silver slapping our wrist would be negative PR since that would make media #TakeNote.

They must be perfectly aware that we play this thing dirty, but its better PR to look away as no one is really talking about it as is.

Yeah tanking when you have a top 10 player in the NBA would be crazy. Lauri is not a top 10 player.

No really! But even if Malone wasn’t a top player. He’d go crazy if the Jazz did to him what the team is doing to Markkanen, Collins and others. I mean how many rest days does Kessler need in a row. Lol. It’s just funny to me how times have changed.

I took my daughter to a Science conference in DC in December. The city legit shuts down after 6. There are a few places open, but you legit have to look hard.

You were in the wrong part of town. The central business district around Farragut, McPherson Square, Foggy Bottom, Logan Circle (my old office), L'Enfant Plaze, etc. are indeed dead in the PM. But the areas around Dupont Circle, Gallery Place/Chinatown, Adams Morgan, and others are hopping in the PM.

Feel a bit sad for Middleton. All he did is get old, not his fault. Whereas Marcus Smart is fair game and did this himself.

And players can't do anything about tanking. They could go crazy and start throwing stuff, and then the team would probably invent an "out for the season" injury for them. Going public in any way would be just disastrous for everyone involved.

Also the media treatment is quite different in Utah than it would be in NY. In a major market there would be many big name reporters that wouldn't care about team and would happily expose things. The Jazz beat reporters are happy to skip the topic almost completely (Andy Larsen as a true Jazz fan is struggling with the losing and if he didn't know it would be equally disastrous for him personally, might do something about it.)

However, Lauri knew what the plan was going to be before he signed his big, juicy extension. If they tanked in the middle of his contract would be one thing, but he could have easily declined the offer and decide to go elsewhere when his contract is up. He's all about the money (as he should be).

If the jazz in the 90’s had come to Malone and said before you sign this new contract please know we are going to tank and hold you out most of the second half of the year, he wouldn’t resign.
