I have worked in data science / ML for the last ten years where I've had to try and explain statistics to business leaders who prefer their "gut", but it still amazes me how unwilling people are to understand probabilities.

Yeah 14% isn't great, but the whole "the worst record never gets it" as a reason not to maximize chances is silly. Don't mean to be a dick, I get where people are coming from, but still

I have the exact same thoughts. There's a reason why our field needs to exist in the first place. Humans don't do well with probability and randomness on their own.

I mean, it doesn’t maximize chances for a top-4 pick.

Every loss help the probability on the lottery balls. There is no guarantee if the Jazz lose out that they will get the No 1 pick. I'm all in for the Flagg.
Every loss (as an individual event) doesn't help on the probability of the lottery balls at this point. The only way we can change (reduce) the number of lottery balls we have is to win 4 of our last 7 games (and that's only with the assumption that the Pels lose out). Nothing we can do now improves our probability for Flagg.

(So I was hoping that you have someone in mind for 5th in the draft that you prefer over 6th or 7th, since that's effectively what a loss to Charlotte could (be the only thing to) affect.)

Every loss helps make our worst case pick scenario better.

Yeah that's why I was asking homey who he wants for the 5th pick.

Do you have a guy at 5th that you're yearning for? (It's OK if you don't. I certainly am not enough into the draft this time to have an informed opinion.)
