Why does it seem like Jazz fans think their own players are willing to take million less to stay in SLC? Especially when 99% of them aren't from here anyway.
Argh. 5 years 25 million... Well, what would we have offered WM? Probably around 3 to 3.5 million a year? Let's compare this to other current/former guys:
Brewer - 2.7 million (according to ESPN)
Korver - 5 million
Miles - 3.7 million
I'm kind of of the fence with this. There are other decent players who would probably sign for 5 million a year. And who knows who would be included if we made a trade? If we did trade for Gortat and they offered us sombody else, a guy like Pietrus could step in for Matthews. Though we don't know how good Matthews could get, that's the thing. Hmmm... we have a week to match, so if nothing happens, we probably should take Matthews back. Though if we can sign someone better for 5 million per year like a Morrow, that would rule. He's like KK, but better.

You're wrong. He is worth what he got offered. At least to somebody and that's all that really counts.
Listen, I'm not saying they should have gone out and made ridiculous offers to these guys because they couldn't, I get that, but they at least could have tried rather than waving the white flag without even putting up a fight. They lost his number? Really? That, to me, is pathetic. Okay, so maybe being the first to call him isn't the most important thing in the world, but the fact of the matter is that they went about the Kyle situation all wrong. If they didn't want him, they should have just said, "Thanks for all you've done, but it's time to go our separate ways."
I'm not desperate, I just want them to show that they care about the well being of the team enough to at least try make something positive happen.

Lets Hope! The greedy players need to come back to earth. The one thing that owners should not give in to is guaranteed contracts. The NBA needs to follow the example of the NFL. Get these pansy *** players to actually work for the money they are paid.
Now - Back on topic - The Jazz will match JUST to save face if nothing else.
This is excellent point. Portland emerged as a suitor only within last few days. And we have supposedly been interested for over 2 weeks. It would make a lot of sense to offer same deal as CJ got 4-16, and get Wes locked up early. I doubt he would be looking too hard elsewhere as a RFA, if we just gave him same deal as CJ got. And of course the deal would not be front loaded, so CAP hit and front money would be about 3.5 or so. But we did nothing, as always, and ended up in a tough situation again. Just like with CJ, just like with Millsap. How many times is it going to take for the Jazz FO to get off their asses and avoid making same mistakes over and over again?

I know I`m far from being an expert on the inner workings of the NBA, but a lot of you rather angry guys in here seem to both be doing the mistake of comparing absolutes to relatives while at the same time living in the past. $5 million is a hell of a lot of money, but in today`s market it is not enough to get anyone much better than Wes - at least not to Utah. If we want to compete we have to build a new team and Wes Matthews is one of the best and most promising players we could hope getting. $25 for 5 seems pretty decent for both parties in this market and the Jazz should match immediately. The best thing we can hope for at the moment is for Wes, CJ and PM take another few steps while we wait for Tomic or get extremely lucky in our search for a big guy. Releasing Wes and thinking we can get someone much better for that money would just be silly.
