What's new

Maybe it's Millsap...

Every year it's the same thing: Millsap's ceiling is garbage player. Millsap's ceiling is great sub because he can't score on starters. Millsap's ceiling as a starter is low because he's not tall enough, he can't pass, and he'll never have a consistent outside jumpshot. Now its something like he can be pretty good, but he won't stay healthy. I don't know how much higher his ceiling goes, but I don't think he's reached it, and that feels good.

I love how people base there opinion off what Millsap has done so far with the Jazz and say he is only a garbage or role player.

When he played next to Boozer we never ran plays for him. I don't understand why nobody has pointed this out. Boozer got all of the plays. His role was to hustle.

When Boozer was injured Millsap put up huge numbers consistently. He got hurt that one year and had a injury that would of kept Boozer out all together. His numbers dropped after that leg injury but when he was healthy he was putting up 20 and 10. Maybe he can't stay healthy but when the offense is ran through him with Deron he produced. He did the majority of the time. He actually seemed to play better against the Lakers also. He is about the same height as Boozer but because he is a lot quicker he can get around Gasol easier. And if his shot keeps connecting the guys will have to come out to guard his shot which allows him space to drive to the hoop.

It is a great option to have Millsap and Jefferson. If one is not playing well the other one can pick up the slack. It is a very nice luxury we have. I personally think we should continue to run the offense through Millsap and Jefferson be 2nd. Millsap has a more versatile game which helps in the pick roll.

I have no issues with Millsap. It's obvious he trained during the off season and prepared for what he knew was going to be "his time."

In which fundamentals do you find him lacking? Court awareness? Foot work? Post moves? The ability to pass out of the post? Shooting mechanics? The only thing he gives up on Boozer is 1 inch and his left hand, and we all know what Boozer's currently doing with his left hand!

Besides the fact that Millsap has great post moves, a soft, tight jumper, very intelligent court awareness, a fantastic handle (as we saw last night), and is a WARRIOR who battles for 82/48, he certainly CAN create for himself when necessary. I've seen him make moves in the post that have made by jaw drop, and I'd certainly build a post centric roster around him any day of the week before that ballet dancin pansy Boozer.

No doubt he is helped by Jefferson's presence, but that's the beauty of it.

Agree with this post. Millsap has to use his improving jumper, especially if he can quicken the release a bit, to enable him to put the ball on the floor. It may sound a bit odd, but Millsap should try to patter his game after big SFs like Carmelo Anthony and Lamar Odom. If he can put the ball on the floor without charging over people, he can make some good things happen. The question is whether he has the quickness.

Millsap's Luis Scola-ish. Better than a role player but not quite a main cornerstone for a team.

.

As of now this would be close to an accurate assessment. Although Scola is bigger and has always been a starter in recent years unlike Millsap. The jury is still out on Millsap's ceiling. He has the whole season to show what that is.

I've been lurking this board ever since Millsap made the team. I've seen Paul play back in college. This guy works and plays hard. He's humble. He's far from his ceiling.

Plus, he played at the same school that Karl Malone played at. ;)
