What's new

Mehmet Okur Appreciation Thread (2004 - 2011) - You Will Be Missed ;_ ;

Whoa! Easy!

Wow! Don't go say something bad about memo huh? You people obviously know nothing about basketball.

You wanna know what my nickname for him is? Peso.

For crying out loud! Do you even remember why we couldnt get past teams like the lakers and spurs? Do you think it had something to do with not being able to compete with their bigs? Derrrrrrrrrrrrr! And the games weren't even close. We were dominated by them. Maybe Favors should start chucking up threes. I can't believe CJ isn't your favorite player, he likes to chuck up threes.

Who cares he hit threes. He gave up more points on the defensive end than he ever scored. He had zero game with back to basket. And watching him drive to the hoop in slow motion was about as fun as watching paint dry.

Take your blinders off!

I guarantee he doesn't make new jersey any better.

You poor, poor little boy. What he did not sign your jersey or something? Memo's biggest handicap was playing with a self centered, stats chasing, resting on the defensive end, its all about I guy Boozer for so long. He will shine with Deron again and be on a title chaser like Lakers, Miami or wherever Dwight ends up next year. Him an Howard playing the four and five would be lethal. So take your medicine and relax.

I certainly liked Okur's shooting and loyalty to the team and that he was a good teammate but his matador defense drove me crazy. He just was to nice, I never seen him giving hard foul to anybody who drove into our paint. See this and tell me how you can turn your back to it instead of trying to challenge what it became game winning layup at the buzzer.

One thing I would like to mention is that most of the fans here known to be critical of Memo, which I respect as long as they are not trolling or bringing up stupid arguments, have always skipped some moments, decisions, qualities that are about Memo and his time with the Jazz organization.

If Memo missed a game, you would be absolutely sure that he tried everything to play in that game. If he missed the playoffs in '09, the reason was post all-star injuries of Boozer and AK, which forced Memo to play, and play big minutes, even with injuries like hamstring, tendinitis. Nobody but Memo would take the risk of rupturing achilles -knowing the fact that he already had tendinitis- for the playoff seeding of the team, and he did.

I mean, it's a waste of time for me to bring up old game recaps, game stories and pics from his website, tweets etc to prove, I have no obligation to prove anything. You saw the fan reaction and the feelings of public when Boozerica came into SLC, will see how Deron will be welcome. You saw how excited fans were even in the scrimmage when Memo's name called, and you will see how fans react when Memo steps onto the LHM floor as a NJN. Talk about these before "deserving the contract" or "being overrated/underated" Common sense will prevail and will let every Jazz fan here know how bad/good/loyal/undeserving/lazy any of ex-Jazz man of Dwill-Booz era was, 4-5 years later.

Memo was/is never the best man on the floor, even when he was playing in Turkey back in late '90s, but he is a role model for sportsfans and young players, and is a very good reason for me to arrange my schedule, daily routines in accordance with the Jazz schedule, for the most part of the year. I'm proud of Memo as a compatriot and coreligionist of him and am very glad to have been able to watch him as a member of my favorite team, even though the Jazz games/school fight in me costed me one educational year. I hope Enes also will represent our country, religion even better than Memo. And nobody can argue against the fact that Memo has done much more to make this team a playoff contender than prevent the team from being competitive. That's just unfair if you consider the generally overlooked qualities and contributions he has brought. Good luck in NJ, Money man.

Hope I can do this as a newbie, but repped. I agree 100%.

He did keep up some good D on Duncan in the WCF during our homespan. Memo getting hate from BluesRocker is typical though. Lemme find out though you were screaming like a girl when he dropped a money shot.

Man Okur was like The Rock of SLC at one time. If he hit a clutch 3, the whole Arena was out of their seat.

I just love the guy. He never took a 3 I didn't think he would make. Total gamer. Limited defensively, but did OK in the one to one battles with some pretty great centers. And one of the few guys I would pray got the shot in clutch moments. Just an incredible shooter.

Thanks for backing up our Money Man. He is not a Jazz man any more but he is still our Money Man. +1

I would not be surprised to see him wearing a Jazz unifrom again once his contract runs out and his price comes down to earth. Also I believe that he will have a great season in New Jersey with Deron and no Boozer to wear him down.
