What's new

Mehmet Okur Appreciation Thread (2004 - 2011) - You Will Be Missed ;_ ;

Memo was beast and HE KNEW HOW TO MAKE IT RAIN 3s. I will definitely miss his "money shots". Good luck Memo, you should live in Utah after your career if you like the states :D

God damn it. He was my favorite jazz player of all time (

...you must be about 8 years old....oh, wait! You swear like a Marine so you could be a tad bit older! Have you ever seen Stockton and Malone? If Memo is your favorite Jazz player of all time.....I pity the fool.

You guys act like memo was your boyfriend

Lmao! His game will not be missed. He sucked. What in the world were you guys watching? All I seen was a guy giving up layups all day long.
Someone else like say deron could have just been taking those threes.

There is a whole lot more to basketball than shooting threes. And memo did absolutely nothing else above average. He crippled our defense.
Our whole defense was built around stopping layups and we still couldn't do it. And its also the reason why we gave up so many threes. Memo couldn't handle the post defense so we had to over help down low.

So what he was a good guy. How's that saying go.... nice guys finish last
We need ballers not missionaries

You all sound like you are ready to cry. He isn't dead.

Trust me our defense will be better with him gone and no points will be missed.

**** your face

I will miss the 3s, the interviews, the goofy-*** child-like smiles and enthusiasm. For all his deficiencies, you could always count on Memo showing up and doing whatever he could to help his guys win. In an ego-driven league and culture, Memo was the exception.

That was and-one.

Whoa! Easy!

Wow! Don't go say something bad about memo huh? You people obviously know nothing about basketball.

You wanna know what my nickname for him is? Peso.

For crying out loud! Do you even remember why we couldnt get past teams like the lakers and spurs? Do you think it had something to do with not being able to compete with their bigs? Derrrrrrrrrrrrr! And the games weren't even close. We were dominated by them. Maybe Favors should start chucking up threes. I can't believe CJ isn't your favorite player, he likes to chuck up threes.

Who cares he hit threes. He gave up more points on the defensive end than he ever scored. He had zero game with back to basket. And watching him drive to the hoop in slow motion was about as fun as watching paint dry.

Take your blinders off!

I guarantee he doesn't make new jersey any better.

This thread isnt just about celebrating memo the player, but also memo the person.
You are an idiot.

memo made me smile big and smile often. I will miss Memo the player, and the person.

In most of the trades, modesty, work ethic and loyality is something you cannot get equal value in return.

You remember when we had that playoff series with the Lakers when Memo was injured and didn't play and we still lost? Of course you don't.

Watching a "100% healthy" Memo and realizing that even healthy he's now older...slower...and a worse defender then he was two years ago did not tap-down my excitement in having Memo back. I think I missed the Booz, Williams, Memo days. Change sucks...not because I liked those players more or because I think we won't be successful now, but because it just serves to make me feel older. Same as when we lost Stockton and Malone. I'm blinded when a player blows past Memo for an easy layup, because - well, its Memo and damnit I like Memo. I'm glad Kevin had the balls to do this...I would not have. It's like when my cat turned 16 and started losing weight rapidly and we all knew what needed to be done - but I didnt care, I had great memories of that cat and I when I looked at him I didnt see an old cat past his prime, I saw the cat how he used to be. No matter how much he would've screwed up and cost us points on the defensive end this year, I wouldn't have seen any of it. So I'm glad Kevin made room in the litter box for the new cats.

I'd like to think Memo is in a better place now...raining down threes and driving to the hoop in slow-motion, fading back on one leg over the outstretched hand of Yao.

I don't post much anymore, but for some reason its the first thing I thought of when I heard the news. I'm still a little in shock and I know there are people here who understand.

No matter what we liked or disliked about Memo;hated or loved about him, tonight I'll drink to the Money Man.

Here's to the "I-should-be-an-all-star-this-year" streak of performances after the first round of selections, here's to the clutch shots and the hot wife jokes, here's to open-mouth-gum-chewing and the 'pick-n-pop', to the shutting down Yao and always playing hard (even if it is at half the speed of everyone else).

I dont think I'll be able to watch Sex and the City again.

Oh...and here's to devils and beer!

Who has blinders on? A person who evaluates everything entirely from a basketball standpoint or a person who recognizes that an individual's contribution to the world can go far beyond the court? Nobody here is claiming that Memo was the greatest player in the history of the game. They are saying that they loved watching him hit clutch shots, they loved the exciting moments he created, they respect the type of person he is, they admire how he carries himself, and that they want to give him thanks.
