This team was built with the vision, the sweat and the efforts of Larry Miller and Jerry Sloan for the last 20 plus years, and so you know these are important virtues. In Salt Lake City you need to be honest, be your self, and if you are friendly, modest, warm and gracious you will be loved here. It is very simple.
All I can say to them is "Choose your goals well, work hard and if that is not enough work harder, never be satisfied or fullfilled, and always remember the team comes first.". Once again welcome Enes to Salt Lake City. Our home away from home.
A great interview. Thanks for posting. It has humor as with his comments about KOC comparing big men to a starting rotation. LOL. It shows respect and devotion to a couple of men who made the Jazz. And the "Our home away from home" sentence? Well my eyes got watery. Why should I lie. Hope Money comes back healthy. I know a lot of Jazz fans love to criticize Memo's defense and lack of athleticism but he has one great talent. He can shoot. He can rebound a little but shooting is how he makes his money. Last year, one of the biggest problems was the lack of 3pt shooting. Many fans seem to forget how great Okur is at it. Instead they focus on his weaknesses instead of appreciate his greatness. The dude can flat out shoot. Two things the Jazz needed coming off the bench last year.
I really believe some fans really underestimate Okur's impact on our team. His out side shooting opens up the lane, forcing a center to guard him at the 3pt line. He also won several games with clutch shooting at the end of the game. The Jazz had no one to consistently shoot 3 pts or take the clutch shot during the season. The Jazz had to rely on CJ too much for bench scoring. Just think about our bench this year with Okur healthy.
Say the starting lineup is : Harris, Hayward, CJ, Favors, Jefferson. Our bench could be Burks at PG, Bell at SG, Millsap SF (remember he will be playing against backup SF), Kanter PF and Okur C. Now you are talking about a young team with some veteran leadership and a team with a boat load of talent.
Our second team may be better than the first if Kanter and Burks are as good as advertised. There are many other possibilities with this roster. I loved the article and have always been a fan of Okur. Yes I have been frustrated with his lack of athleticism but Okur always played hurt, is a tough matchup due to his 3 pt shooting, and his clutch shooting.
The fact that he is a nice person and loves everything about being part of the Jazz organization only reminds me how much I've missed him being around. I certainly hope he is healthy and can provide the scoring, leadership and rebounding off the bench that the Jazz so desperately need.
The future is bright just look at the potential starting 5 in a few years.

Good post Cowhide. I too feel too many have forgotten what a great player Okur had been for the Jazz. I think he's too one-dimensional, but very much appreciate what he did very well.

I was critical of prematurely extending Memo but wow, maybe his injuries and awful play won't mater because he'll make up for it by mentoring Kanter into a stud of epic proportions.
4 lottery picks in 2 years...2 of them #3 big men... two more coming next year, if not more with trades. (lets be serious the Jazz aren't going to be better than 12 again) This is how you build a team... I mean who would you rather have if you're trying to win a championship in the next 5 years

There is so much depth to this team as it is... the first team is a 6 seed consistently, the second team sky is the limit... not everybody is going to fulfill their potential, but people are already calling Favors "Dwight-light"... we don't know what Kanter can do, yet. Hayward was playing like a lengthy Brandon Roy late last season, and Alec Burks could be Brandon Roy... and Devin Harris, Paul Milsap, and AJ are not out of their primes, and we know each can play like an all-star. I don't foresee playoffs this year, but that might be good for adding more young guys (Austin Rivers). This team could be the Thunder, in a year or two.
Im sure he will resign for a good deal with jazz cuz he always mentioned he wanna retire in jazz (anyway i wouldnt give memo more than 5-6 million a yr)

Im so happy that we picked him, i was talking to Hedo for long yrs that it would be great if we played together with him, but now i got this chance with Enes, and as an elder brother i will do anythng to help him in and off the court.
Sp: Enes also told, u worked a lot to make Enes come to utah
Memo : I had a chance to make a long talk with KOC n he asked me about enes, i told that i didnt have opportunity to meet him in person but whoever i talked about him, made great comments so i told those positive comments to KOC, that he is a very hardworking player n he is very versatile, so im very happy if i had any effect on this decision.
Sp: What difficulties Enes may face in Utah ? u know Utah very well, what kind of difficulties a rookie may have in Utah?
Memo: Lets not make it utah, but lets make it nba, becuz nowadays its easier to go there but the difficult thing is to stay there long years. He is 19, very young, with a bright future, everythng actually depends on him, as much as he works hard n love what he does, he can stay there long years. But he gotta take care of his body very well, we play around 100 games together with the playoffs in a season, its a very long marathon, he is now a rookie...
Sp: Do they make fun of rookies ?
Memo: Not much in utah but i have talked to a couple of teammates, they told about some jokes they already did to him but now its not proper if i say it on tv .
I can advice only one thing to enes, i will also tell it to his face when i see him , its a long journey, sometimes he will play 5 min, sometimes he wont play at all, he already lacks game practise for a while, he has long years ahead, he shouldnt give up, he should always get himself ready, season is long, there r injuries, as long as he is ready he will find opportunities to play.

Memo: Yeah its very tough, he gotta be ready always, im sure he will find chance to play, as i told it depends on him, when i was in detroit in rookie year, i couldnt take much play time, i was getting 5 mins, then when rebreca was injured n then i suddenly started to play 30 mins, n second season i started in 5. He is already talented, im sure he will do fine, he shouldnt stress himself, as long as he takes care of himself he will play long yrs in jazz,

Memo : Its really important for him to play becuz i wont be able to play, Semih n Omer asik is also injured i dont know how much progress they made but there is an obvious shorthanddedness in bigman rotation, if Enes plays in national team, he may close the gap of not playing games for 2 yrs a little bit, and he may be more ready before nba season starts, also he can gain experience n make the national team better.

Memo : Now as far as i know, due to the rules brought by FIBA, the players who already has contract cannt play in europe but the ones whose contract expired. Now this is what i know but in the upcoming days some stuff may change.

Memo : I couldnt play almost a year due to the injury, now i wanna play but i also learned from my mistake. When my achilles tendon was torn, i wanted to return asap, becuz i was never a player who sits on the bench n do nothing, this was the longest injury ever for me, i returned too early after 9 months, i wished i didnt return, cuz after i return , my left was weak and then the problem jumped to my hip, to much pressure on my hip, so now i wanna be sensibile about my injury, not even 99% but i would return when im 100% ready.

Agree completely. I think it's pretty amazing the Jazz have rebuilt TWO times in ten years and have had only two down years (well, three if you anticipate the upcoming season as <40 wins). Most of us thought initially there was a real shot at a title with Boozer, Memo and AK. Jazz started off one season 12-1, IIRC, with McLeod running the point. I don't blame Sloan, KOC and Larry H for thinking all the team needed to do was to get healthy once we had an all-star PG join that nucleus.
And then we saw it would never happen. It takes time to unravel high long-term contracts. KOC, IMO, has done a great job of getting the best assets available while improving the financial stability of the team. That's a tough balance. Would have been nice to still have Maynor and Matthews, but the Millers couldn't afford the additional luxury tax. Maybe had AK been unloaded sooner, but I believe Larry H. was the one that nixed at least one deal. Have there been other mistakes? Yes, certainly. Jazz didn't hit on all their picks. But no one does.
About mid-season (heading into the all-star break), I was debating on whether to renew my LP. I hated the effort and attitude of the team. The trade revitalized me. I know there will be some growing pains and rough times ahead. But I want to see these young guys play. Jazz have a lot of talent. They're on the right track. It will be fun seeing if Utah develops into a contender.
