Millsap + #9 to NJ for #3

Would you do it? Would take some salary off the books to resign boozer, and we would draft Turner or Favors. I might even throw in the memphis pick if NJ doesn't bite.
 
Only with Kirilenko off the books do I foresee Boozer resigning. Way too much money. Millsap's cap number isn't that high.
 
Thing is though, AK will be off the books after this year or resigned to a smaller contract. Maybe even traded at the deadline. At the very least, it would make resigning boozer more likely.

Even if we didn't resign boozer though, we could possibly pick Favors and give AK minutes at the 4 as well.
 
How are we risking our future? It's not like we are trading deron. Sure there is a risk. But that's the problem with this team. We don't take risks. A playoff team every year but never a serious contender.

If Favors turns into the next Dwight Howard, we are a championship team. Worst case I still see him atleast as good as Millsap. We are not a championship team now, so to me the risk is fairly low.
 
So you think a lineup of Williams, Matthews, Miles, AK and Favors is a championship contender the next two years before Williams can opt out?
 
Not necessarily in the next two years, but replacing Millsap with Favors would give us a better shot at resigning dwill. Not to mention it would make resigning boozer more likely.

1. Why would having Favors and not Millsap make Williams more likely to sign? He's 19. He's five years from his prime that is completely unknown whether it'll be Karl Malone or Derrick Coleman.

2. Why would having Favors make signing Boozer more likely? The four million or so isn't nearly enough to counterbalance the 12-14 million Boozer will get next year.

FWIW, either one would be pretty damn good. Coleman, in his first five years, was a 20 and 10 guy blocking almost 2 shots a game.
 
Favors has huge upside and could be an all star 2-3 years into his career imo.. I don't see him taking 5 full years to turn into a player. This trade would save us some money. I think 4-5 million would make a difference. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this amount of money essentially double due to the luxury tax? Again, correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Yes it would, and signing Boozer to 12-14 this year after making such a deal would put the Jazz about right at the luxury tax WITHOUT signing Matthews OR Korver. That would be 8 players and you're at the tax. Every player after that the Jazz sign would count double his salary.

So based on your argument making this trade would be a good idea financially.. Keeping Millsap instead would put us further into the luxury tax.

My argument is that Boozer ain't resigning with the Jazz whether the trade is made or not, and Millsap and the #9 is much better financially and value wise over the next two years minimum than the #3.

Ok, fair argument. I would take favors over millsap and the 9 pick financially and value wise. I guess agree to disagree.
